Yes, it was a Criterion release on laserdisc. I don't know exactly the year it was released. There were many classic MGM/Warner/RKO films released on laserdisc through Criterion a long time ago. Here is the link on Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia...erdisc_releases

That is probably why they are re-releasing The Asphalt Jungle. There may be hope for other classic movies (mostly from the Turner library) worthy of the Criterion treatment.

Great. Another John Huston film made at MGM around the same time is THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE. Apparently, it didn't test well with preview audiences and a huge chunk of the story was cut out (explaining its short running time of 69 minutes). I keep hoping they find the missing footage and restore it, so we can see it the way Huston intended it to be.

It would be nice if they also restored CRIME WAVE, which Hayden made a short time later at Warners. That time he's on the right side of the law...and it would make for an interesting double feature with THE ASPHALT JUNGLE.

Interesting choice. I don't remember Criterion restoring an MGM film before.

Excited about the Brando title. It's been neglected for years by historians. So it's finally getting its day in the sun.

7/19 LADY IN THE DARK

Video presentation of the 1954 historical TV production. Music by Kurt Weill. Stars Ann Southern, John Daly and Carlton Carpenter. This is probably taken from a kinescope as this presentation was done live as others were back in the golden age of TV. Hopefully, the video quality for this VAI release is good.
