Could be King Solomon's Mines, shutoo. I see there are several film adaptations. I'd have to check them out. Thanks, guys!

I know it happened in the 1937 (old) version with Cedric Hardwicke..and in the book, but don't know about others. I remember Bing Crosby pulling same stunt in film MovieCollector mentioned..but no natives..

Also maybe consider

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1949)

http://www.imdb.com/...9/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I haven't seen this, but the foreknowledge of the eclipse sounds like something straight out of the book (I remember reading this as a kid).  In the book he also introduced them to a water well with an iron pump, and dynamite.

There was a movie that had, I think, American or English explorers meeting a primitive culture -- maybe it was in Africa or somewhere -- and they were about to be killed by the natives, but the explorers knew that a solar eclipse was starting, and they told the natives that they controlled it! Something like that.

Anyone know what movie this is?
