Kyle Kersten was a true friend of TCM. One of the first and most active participants of the Message Boards, “Kyle in Hollywood” (aka, hlywdkjk) demonstrated a depth of knowledge and largesse of spirit that made him one of the most popular and respected voices in these forums. This thread is a living memorial to his life and love of movies, which remain with us still.

Yes, it was a movie of its time, but has lost most of its punch in the ensuing decades. There are a lot like that, Last House on the Left or Salo or The New York Ripper...movies that were considered beyond the pale and horrific enough to scar the viewer for life. But when seen now, they seem tame or cheap or stupid or overly arty. Some still have qualities to admire, but others are just junk.

"Salo" is art house torture porn

I finally got to see this infamous movie and was shocked by how bad it is- yes it works on some basic exploitation level- but only in the castration scene does the director create any sense of horror or suspense.
