Is it INNOCENT SINNERS?

You got it!  Good job, Arturo.  This film was shown on TCM during the wee hours of the morning several weeks ago. (Or was it several months ago?  I don't remember.)  It doesn't seem like much on paper, but it really is a good film.  I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.  I was particularly impressed by the young lead actress (June Archer).  If anyone is interested in seeing this film, you can find a copy of it on Youtube.  Do a search for "Innocent Sinners 1958".

Your turn, Arturo.

This 1950s film takes place in London.  (Several of the scenes were shot in areas that were completely or partially destroyed by German bombs during World War II.)

While in church, the girl prays to the statue of the Virgin Mary.  She asks her to help her to get a certain amount of money so that she can finish paying back the money she owes.  A young couple happen to overhear the girl praying.  The lady gives the girl the money that she had been praying for.

The girl lives with a married couple who are struggling to keep their small restaurant afloat.  The girl's mother has basically abandoned her.

After a change of heart, one of the boys goes to the girl's house to return her gardening tools. He suggests that she plant a new garden on the side of the church. To clear her guilty conscience, the girl admits that she stole money from the church's collection box. The boy tells her that she can't plant the garden until she pays the money back.

Next: In order to buy tools for her garden, a young girl steals money from the church's collection box.

Later on, a group of boys destroy the girl's garden because it was in their "territory".

Thanks, Arturo. Yes, it is a fun film. It would be great if it could be shown on TCM, especially during Christmastime (but they probably couldn't show it since it's a Fox movie).

Tall, Dark and Handsome  (w/ Cesar Romero)

Congratulations Azure, you got it. I have always enjoyed this 1941 Runyonesque musical comedy, or is it comedy with music? I would've accepted as a correct answer the remake as well, LOVE THAT BRUTE (1950) with Paul Douglas and Jean Peters.

Your turn.

Thank you KarmaGirl.
A gangster is accused of killing his rivals. Despite a trademark of his being left at the crime scene, the police can't pin it on him and let him go.

He goes to a department store (it is Xmas time), and is attracted to an employee who works and plays with kids while their parents shop. He tries to impress her, and hire her, telling her he needs someone to take care of his own kids, although he has no children.

The male star had come from radio, the female star later made a well regarded film series at anotber studio, and the director had originally been slated to be Otto Preminger.
