Orphan Constance Harding(Deanna Durbin)has just graduated from an all girls boarding school.Shes invited by her uncle James Clinton a well to do buisnessman(Eugene Palette)to come live with him and his family.
His family are an assorted cast of character, his daughter Barbra(Helen Parrish)is a spoiled brat with little feelings for Constance,Walter(Lewis Howard)is a lazy no account, and their mother Grace(Leatrice Joy)is an empty headed idiot.
The Clintons are invited to a local ball being run by Ted Drake(Robert Stack)a rich handsome bachelor looking for a wife.
On the night of the ball Constance is told to remain home by her relatives, but with the help of the servents she shows up at the ball.
Robert Stack gave Deanna her first screen kiss.
The old Cinderella story.
