Sometimes, a little insomnia is totally worth it!  I don't know how often TCM shows this film, but it was a first-time view for me early Monday morning, and overall, I'd give it a 7 on a 10-point scale.  The closing scene when the former students gave their beloved teacher the bicycle so she could get to school was touching, as was the blind young man remembering the class photo from 18 years earlier.  The symbolism of the song about the mother crow leaving then coming back to her chicks while they waited for her on the mountainside was appropriate, as 7 students of the original 12 survived the Depression and the War.  Nice job TCM!
