Thanks for your continued support of the TCM Message Boards.

Kyle Kersten was a true friend of TCM. One of the first and most active participants of the Message Boards, “Kyle in Hollywood” (aka, hlywdkjk) demonstrated a depth of knowledge and largesse of spirit that made him one of the most popular and respected voices in these forums. This thread is a living memorial to his life and love of movies, which remain with us still.

“About the Warning System of the Message Boards”

One of the benefits of the new Message Boards is the ability to provide warnings from our moderators to users who violate the boards’ code of conduct.  The purpose of the warning system is to ensure the code of conduct is adhered to and that the TCM Message Boards are a safe, productive and respectful place for anyone to come and discuss movies.  It’s also intended to provide a clear and consistent process for banning serial abusers of the Code of Conduct.

Our community is made up of wonderful, welcoming, friendly, smart and opinionated members.  They are, on the whole, respectful and kind, and lifelong friends have been made here.  But in the past, it has been necessary to ban some users.

Warning points are not bans, and no one can see them but you.  If you get any sort of warning, discuss it with the moderator to learn more.  If enough violations of the Code of Conduct occur that they become cause for a ban, that decision is reviewed by TCM Digital staff.  The process is neither arbitrary nor irreversible.

Also, you have the ability to influence the course of events.  Not only can you discuss any situation that earns you warning points, but you can also reach out to a moderator if you feel there is a violation of the Code of Conduct.  In this context, it’s also important to note the “ignore” features built into the site.  If there are comments you do not like from a member, an option for you is to “ignore” them using features in your Account Settings, which will make the comments of that poster invisible to you.  We encourage everyone to use these features if there is dialogue from someone whose tone or content you find objectionable (even if it does not clearly violate the Code of Conduct). This can help everyone avoid escalations on any subjects they’re very invested in.

If you have any questions on this policy, you can Private Message a moderator to learn more.  Thanks to everyone for their input, and for making this a great place to talk about movies.
