Stowe is achingly beautiful, Not to mention, an enthusiastic and engaged presenter. At the least, I hope she remains the SoTM presenter for the month.

If she became the permanent SoTM presenter, you'd hear no complaint from me...

I agree with you.  She is a solid presenter and she provides useful info.    Hey, I love RO but Stowe is doing a great job filling in.

I loved Stowe's wraparounds for Ryan's films. They added so much to the films.

So you know yet, Braton, who they other friends of TCM are for Robert Ryan's SOTM?

No, I'm not aware of who specifically will be guest hosting in the coming weeks, nor, for that matter, on what nights they'll appear. All I knew was that there would be some guest hosts this month.

I agree with your statement about Stowe's commentary enhancing the films. She was previously a guest programmer on TCM back in September 2013, and at that time it was apparent to me that she is very much a classic movie fan. I was pleased to see that TCM invited her back.

I was impressed by the enthusiasm of guest host Madeline Stowe, who was doing the wraparounds for the first night of TCM's Robert Ryan festival.

I believe that there will be other 'friends of TCM' filling in for the vacationing Robert Osborne on subsequent Friday nights this month. This is based on a conversation I had some weeks ago with an acquaintance who works on TCM's studio production team -- she indicated to me that they would be bringing in a series of guest hosts in May to fill in for R.O. until he returns in June. Ben Mankiewicz will still be hosting several nights of the week himself, but he had a scheduling conflict which prevented him from recording all of the wraparounds for this month.

I once thought of him as the "B" list Gary Cooper, but I've changed my mind since then.  Ryan can be both sexier and more menacing than Cooper which makes him my first choice for film noir, while still preferring Cooper for romance and comedy.

I fell in love with him years ago during one of those months that a different artist is featured everyday and I am very happy to see him again.  He could act in any genre.  He was believable as the bad guy, good guy, hero and love interest.  RR was a multi faceted actor and like Gary Cooper when he is in a movie (good or bad) they steal the scene.  You can't take your eyes off of them, you have to watch.  I welcome May's selection of SOTM.

Here's a link to Robert Osborne's article on Robert Ryan, which appeared in the May 2016 Now Playing magazine: http://www.tcm.com/t...obert-Ryan.html

Of note is Osborne's emphatic recommendation of ABOUT MRS. LESLIE (1954), which will premiere on TCM on Friday, May 13.

If you watch him in ABOUT MRS. LESLIE, on May 13th, you will see that he does very well in romance dramas. He just seldom had the chance to do those kinds of roles on screen. I've read he was one of the more devoted husbands/family men in Hollywood. He and his wife were together for 33 years until her death, a year before his own passing.

ABOUT MRS. LESLIE 1954 is worth having Robert Ryan as May SOTM so everyone can see a lonely and lovely story. Shirley Booth made very few movies, and she and Robert are wonderful. The film is available on AMAZON PRIME, but I am very happy that TCM has included ABL in their lineup. More film lovers will finally be able to see this treasure.

I'm pleased about it, too. We understand that not everyone has Amazon Prime. Plus it's good for TCM to show more Paramount classics.

I still would like an evening of Shirley Booth films...is that too much to ask? :)

They are airing one of the very best Paramount films of the early 1950s:

You're welcome Greg Peck fan.

Two of these are very rare and seldom air on TCM-- ABOUT MRS. LESLIE (simply wonderful with him and Shirley Booth), as well as LOLLY MADONNA XXX, which was one of his very last movies.
