Wonder how Obama managed to win in two landslides with all that voter suppression.

"Donald Trump told the American people that 3-5 million people voted illegally in the last election. His administration officials have repeated this claim. But let’s be clear: It is a lie. There is no evidence whatsoever for it.

This lie about our elections is also not simply the ravings of a sore winner. It sends a message to every Republican governor in the country to accelerate efforts to suppress the vote, to make it harder for people of color, poor people, old people, and young people, to participate in the political process.

The real crisis we face is voter suppression, not voter fraud,.."

"The bill Republicans announced today is even worse than expected and by far the most harmful piece of legislation I have seen in my lifetime.

This bill has nothing to do with health care. It has everything to do with an enormous transfer of wealth from working people to the richest Americans.

Republicans want to throw millions of Americans off of health insurance – including thousands of Vermonters – slash Medicaid, defund Planned Parenthood and substantially increase premiums on older Americans.

Meanwhile, their bill would provide over $200 billion in tax breaks to the top 2 percent and hundreds of billions more to the big drug and insurance companies that are ripping off the American people....

Thanks for your contribution, Highway. You add so much to the discussion, and with such a deficit of thought and originality, too.

Not to mention it has NOTHING to do with what I posted.

Excellent commentary piece by Cokie and Steve Roberts re: Bernie Sanders:  Recipe for Disaster.

They remind us that Sanders is not and never has been a Democrat; he is a proud socialist-independent.

While pointing out Sanders contribution to Trump's victory, they also point out that turning left always ends in disaster for the Democratic Party.

McGovern, Mondale and Dukakis all ran as "liberals" against relatively weak opponents and lost - big time.  When they ran, Nixon, Reagan and G.H.W. Bush were actually not that strong as candidates.

Sanders, Warren, Pelosi, etc. will result in the Republicans continuing to control the House and Senate in 2018 unless moderate Democrats take control and develop a reasonable, moderate, somewhat left of center platform.

2020 would be a disaster if a "liberal" Democrat runs for president.  It would insure four more years of Trump.  If Pence is the candidate in 2020 (not likely as Trump will still be here), a liberal Democrat would absolutely insure massive Republican vicotories from the city halls to the White House.

"In the face of endless propaganda from Democratic establishment leaders, a new poll finds that Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vermont) popularity is greater among minorities and women than among whites and men.

The survey, conducted by Harvard University and The Harris Poll, disproves the “Bernie Bro” trope with hard numbers. According to the survey results, which were conducted among 2,027 registered voters between April 14 and April 17, 2017, Sanders is actually more popular among women, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans than white people and men....

I say to Republicans: If you can’t defend your efforts to throw millions off health care to give huge tax breaks to the top 2%, give it up.

".....Trump said “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.” But if the president really wants to represent Pittsburgh and cities like it, he should know that they are committed to the renewable future he just rejected.

For the last 30 years Pittsburgh has been trying to remake its economy around sustainable energy, according to The New York Times. The renewable energy industry employs 13,000 people in Pittsburgh.

Do you really want to represent the American people, Mr. President? Then focus on preserving our planet for future generations and creating jobs in sustainable energy —not abdicating our responsibility to lead the world."

"....I find it deeply troubling that this decision comes a day after damning testimony by former acting Attorney General Sally Yates on Russia’s ties to the Trump campaign and just days before Comey was scheduled to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

President Trump has repeatedly taken steps to kill inquiries into Russia’s involvement in the U.S. election. It is clear that whomever President Trump handpicks to lead the FBI will not be able to objectively carry out this investigation. We need an independent investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia....

FBI investigating Jane Sanders for possible fraud: report

Federal investigators are looking into allegations that Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) wife, Jane Sanders, falsified loan documents while she served as the president of Burlington College, according to multiple reports.

The small Vermont liberal arts school closed down in May 2016, after going bankrupt and failing to meet accreditation standards.

The college began to face financial difficulties during Sanders's tenure from 2004 to 2011, falling $10 million into debt when the school purchased a new campus in 2010.

Sanders has been accused of falsifying the information on the loan documents in order to expand the college grounds.

The VTdigger.org reported that some of the donors Sanders appealed to for help with loans are now in contact with the FBI and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

Sanders left her leadership role in 2011 for undisclosed reasons.

What were they thinking when they appointed a socialist to run a business? lol. They end up bankrupt.

Sanders said:

"Simultaneously, it’s important that the American people have faith that the process of this investigation is done fairly, objectively and goes where it goes.

But our job right now … is we have got to rally the American people around what is clearly an extremely reactionary, right-wing agenda which is being pushed by the billionaire class. And the essence of that agenda are many hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks going to the top two percent, massive cuts in education, in health care, in environmental protection, in the needs of our senior citizens. …

So two issues: objective investigation, stand up and protect American workers and the middle class. "
