TheWolf, Thank you for starting this thread. Am so sad to hear of Tony Curtis' death last night. He was a great actor, like many, made some flops and did some films for the money, but became an outstanding actor. Thank you for the People article link. He will be missed by many.

Yes, BIG SIGH. I'm so over the Oscars and most "organized" awards shows etc...

I still don't understand how Dennis Hopper didn't get his Star on the Walk of Fame until a few months before he died yet there are Disney stars who have already received them. It's a slap in the face and the people behind some of these committees must really be morons.

Sorry to hear this. Another honorary Oscar candidate bites the dust before getting one. ...SIGH.

I have watched some interviews and so enjoyed them. Quite a guy. I guess a bit of a ladies man but hey...he had the looks back when. I had such a crush on him as a teenager back when. Thanks for all the great entertainment Mr. Curtis. Lots of entertainment going on up there isn't it my tcm friends? My condolences to his family. Jan

Really, he wasn't just another pertty face.In the beginning he admitted that he was in it for the money and the women. But along the way he developed into a very good actor, he took chances with the roles. Of course we all know "Some Like it Hot" and "Sweet Smell of Success", but look at some of his other not so big hits. "The Outsider" as Ira Hayes. The American Indian who joined the Marines and wound up on Iwo Jima helping raise a flag. "The Boston Strangler", a scarey performance by Curtis, "Goodbye Charlie" a almost forgotten comedy gem about reincaration. Many other film he proved himself in while he was entertaining us along the way. Even as a handsome movie star, and he was that, there was always something of Bernie Schwartz in the background....R.I.P...

Just heard this too. First Eddie Fisher, now Tony Curtis. Everything comes in 3's, so who's next?
Olivia, her sister Joan, Liz Taylor? The great Golden Era of movie stars is dying away and it's very sad.
I was never a huge fan of Tony Curtis, but it is still hard to see the oldsters leaving this world. Thankfully to celluloid, film historians and wonderful TCM, we will have memories of these movies and movie stars, I pray, for a very long time.

Rest in Peace Mr. Curtis.

Finance, I agree!

If someone can discuss Hollywood of that era and omit Bernie Schwartz, they lose credibility with me! He used to say his acting was underrated, and I agree. I still think his Private Screenings is one of my favorites. It's as if two friends were talking and the viewer is simply eavesdropping from the next table.

Say what you will about him, but it is impossible to discuss film, and Hollywood, history of the '50s and '60s without much discussion of Tony Curtis.
