Coop's either dabbing make-up or signaling rescuers to get him off the "Vrta Cruz" hell-hot location.

Perhaps we should mention that Larry Blyden was married to Miss Haney and produced two children.

Thank you, cujas. I knew she was a talented dancer but not like this. A lot of people with the goods weren’t Miss Americas or Adonises but neither were a lot of us in the seats and we didn't care; maybe we identified with them. The more I hear about Gene Kelly the less I admire him as a person. He might have been a genius as a dancer or choreographer but he seems to be lacking in the humanity department. Or am I being too judgmental?

Carol Haney was the real loss--she died at 39, right after choreographing Stresiand's "Funny Girl" on Broadway. She received the Tony postumously.

She spent 4 years making Gene Kelly look good as his Dance Assistant for On the Town, * An American In Paris* & Singing In the Rain. Kelly wouldn't promote her for stardom because he said she wasn't photogenic.

She went on to star in "Pajama Game" and recreated her role in the film version. She won her 1st Tony as a choreographer for "Flower Drum Song"--on Broadway for which she was hired by the director, Gene Kelly.

Carol Haney was a unique dance artist.

You'd never know it to look at this pix. But things were not always so happy on the set of Bells Are Ringing.

Thank you, SueSue.

According to former co-star Dina Merrill, Blyden was carjacked in Morocco by bandits who killed him and took the car and his valuables. Because there was no identification on the body, his family did not learn of the tragedy for several days afterward. He was 49.

I didn't realize Larry Blyden had died so young! He was from Houston, Texas. I remember watching him on Password and other game shows. He went to the University of Houston for awhile.

It was so wonderful to meet you at the Turner Classic Movie Festival this year. Hope you are well, wouldbe! You, too, Mongo!

I always check out your wonderful thread.:)

:( Larry Blyden died at only 50? What a loss! He could and did do everything.

A lady at our church was a cousin of Carol Haney, his wife for a time, so we kind of followed his career because of that. Also, I loved Nita Talbot and they did a sitcom together. Like Nita, he could make you laugh in one role and break your heart when he went dramatic. He left us way too soon. :(
