Best SciFi Film of the 1950's ???

" I think "The Thing" was the best SF film of the 1950's with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Day the Earth Stood Still" close seconds. A case can also be made for "Forbidden Planet." I think I'd agree with all of this. The problem with Forbidden Planet is that for such an imaginative film, it was directed very woodenly. That's a trap a lot of special effects movies fall into. In order to get all the neat visuals in the frame, the camera pulls back and you lose intimacy with the characters. Too much dilution of impact. I think The Thing is easily the best 50's SF film on any number of levels, and even if you leave SF out of it it's still a great movie.
