    Carnival of Souls

I don't know what happened while I was watching this film but I found it extremely unsettling. Something strange happened though, I found myself falling for Candace Hilligoss a few minutes into the film. She sort of reminded me of Ruta Lee, who was recently on a Perry Mason episode. These independent films seem very real to me. Then I realized that the actress would be in her 80's today. There was so much realism that you can overlook the mediocre acting. Even though it was dated, in a way it could have been filmed last week. I knew an independent director here in Maryland back in the 70's. Maybe the fact that the dialog was delivered in a natural way without any flourish gave the film a real look. I was only 11 when it was made and it was a real treat to see the old cars and the abandoned Carnival. The creepy organ music added to the uneasy feeling.

    Mid-Atlantic accent

Was the Mid-Atlantic, Transatlantic accent used mainly in the early talking pictures? At some point in time it disappeared from most films but in the 30's it seemed that most actresses and a few actors acquired the accent. Were these people from the theater? When did the accent phase out?

    Noir Alley

Here I am complaining again about the omission of Noir Alley today. Isn't this but a two hour spot and why must it disappear whenever there is a holiday weekend or special event? Can't TCM show a Noir film in the usual spot even if Eddie Muller is on vacation or it is a holiday weekend? It's only a two hour spot once a week (well, two with the midnight showing). I can't be the only one that feels this way. This is the last time I will formally complain about this. Please forgive me.

    Noir Alley

How can there be a 31 days of Oscar in February when there is only 28 or 29 days in the month?

    What is this all about?

I use Chrome and I have a Mac and I think it could be part of my issue.

    Noir Alley

Glad I tuned in and found out that Noir Alley is taking the entire month of February off. Like I said earlier it's only two hours a week for crying out loud. I can sleep late on Sundays for a month.

    Noir Alley

Thanks. I have been so busy (I'm a musician among other activities) that I missed any announcement. Since I have a band rehearsal this evening I will have to schedule a DVR recording for tonight. Thanks for letting me know. I guess it's obvious that Noir is my favorite genre.

Wow this guy really doesn't like TCM anymore!

I don't know if this was covered. Why is there no daytime host? Isn't it a matter of them filming the intro's ahead of time? I like the personal touch of a host. I do agree with a lot of what the original poster was saying. Robert Osborne was the heart and soul of TCM and the new much younger hosts appear to be just going through the motions. I like the idea of bringing an older actor back to host occasionally. There must be actors in their 70's and early 80's that would be up to the task. It shouldn't be a task really, it should be fun.
  11. Singing in the Rain (1952) Gene Kelly age 40 and Debby Reynolds age 20, in a romance. I'll be Seeing You (1944) Tom Tully age 36 Spring Byington age 58, husband and wife. Susan Slept Here (1954) Dick Powell age 50 Debby Reynolds age 22, housemates with more to come. I think it's funny that in real life our families and peers would be all over us for getting in a relationship with such a huge age difference. In Hollywood we might as well forget the age of the actors and just enjoy the film. Any other examples you can think of?

    TCM and Chrome

I am unable to access the Watch TCM site because I receive the message "This is the first time you have logged on through a social network" my incorrect email address is grayed out and I cannot update it. I am stuck on this one screen. I even tried to disable any ad blockers that were enabled. Is this a new thing? I saw some problems in March of this year but this just started with me. I have never tried to log on TCM through any social network. What gives?

    WC Fields straw hat

Why did Fields wear a hat with no top? There must be some reason. So his head wouldn't sweat under the studio lights? Because he couldn't afford a complete hat? Because it was easier to put on and take off? Beats me.

    Murder My Sweet

This is a great film that Dick Powell was made to star in. It takes a few viewings to get past Marlowe's sarcasm. I don't think any of Powell's lines didn't have that sarcastic edge. After reading the book several times I can hear Chandler in the dialog. Who else would pen the line "put a ribbon on it'? Took a while to get past what seems like an archaic speech pattern. So this movie only gets better with repeated viewings. Anne Shirley is about as cute as a young lady can be. Everything just works and it is a typical convoluted Chandler plot. I almost have to take notes to keep track of what is going on but I don't care. I own the DVD so there is time.

    Not enough Noir?

Are there not enough Noir films that prevents Noir Alley from being on every Sunday? I have grown accustomed to making it part of my Sunday at 10 am and there are sometimes weeks where it is not aired. Even if it can't be hosted every week can we at least watch a Noir film Sundays at 10am?
  16. I love Noir Alley and some of the sci fi films that I have seen on TCM. Would a "bad cinema" night work? Maybe just one film a week but not so horrible a film that no one would want to watch it. A film like Robot Monster, Beast With a Million Eyes, Billy the Kid Meets Dracula and some 50's and 60's weird films. Some of these films do show up occasionally on TCM but I consider Bad Cinema as an art in its own right. It has to be a bad film but not hideously awful. It would need to have some value as a cult film or so rare that we have heard about it but never seen it before.

    What is this all about?

So now I am having problems accessing the board in Firefox and I still have problems with Chrome. I know when I'm not wanted. Alas, woe is me!

    Really bad but classic movies.

I might have asked this question before. There was a movie made around 1958 where a young boy is turned into a werewolf because of nuclear testing. I only remember a scene of him sitting on the porch and a little while later he looks like a wolf boy.

    Really bad but classic movies.

I love TCM but I also see the same movies repeated often.

Thanks, I haven't been to that end of the board yet. This is a big place.

    Really bad but classic movies.

Maybe if it was "Robot Monster" which is pretty bad and funny at the same time. Some of those cult movies such as "Eraserhead" are great films.

    Noir Alley

Shouldn't Noir Alley be aired in the dead of night? Sunday at 10 am seems like a time for family viewing. Now 10 pm is a different story.
  23. I am receiving this screen in Chrome for last week or so. I am about fed up with posting in technical issues.
  24. FloydDBarber

Since no one will help in the technical issues section.

Yes I have cleared the cache. I am using a Mac. Slaytonf what is wrong with my wanting to resolve this problem with Chrome?
  25. FloydDBarber

Since no one will help in the technical issues section.

As you can see the email section is grayed out and it will not accept the password either. I am here now in Firefox. If I am not good enough to help in the help section than maybe I should move on. I realize there have been updates but it only takes a few minutes to look in the help section. Maybe I sound angry but I think any of you would be frustrated receiving this pop-up every time you try to log in with Chrome.
