  1. Hello, me again the complainer... Um, I guess I have found the place for this thread, not the vast "complaints with the Hollywood trip section", (sorry about the mixup) but for the board in general. It's weak. And it seems there are things you can do, but are not willing to do to make your site more functional and bring it in line with something the rest of the message board world do everyday. Um, "it's yours and you're proud of it" so it must be right... (and because you don't know any better and I doubt your webmasters will inform you...) So, there's really no point in even setting this thread is there? So much for "user feedback", why don't you just do the things, play the same movies and run the kind of programming that made TNT a success? Carry on, drive it into the ditch and squeeze every penny out you can along the way. (Cheating us in a small, but growing way each time. I don't care what weak "reason" you put on for airing Thelma And Louise: "Girls Empowered Week" or whatever flimsy, "theme" reason you have, it still amounts to us watching Thelma And Louise doesn't it? And I bet you invent these flimsy "theme weeks" so you can feel that those contemporary movies you try and pass off on us will be plausable. No... you did that so slickly we never noticed.) Hey, here's an idea for the station... start playing "encore" performances... play a movie three times in a row... (think of the money it will save you!) We all want to watch Casablanca, a movie we have all seen 10 times anyway three more times in one evening. In fact, by that logic ("it's such a great movie we play it over and over... it's not that we're cheap...") play nothing but Casablanca and put ads between it. No one can watch Casablanca enough, go with that... ( And no... none of these little "tricks" put up by your programming geniuses was picked up on by the viewers. You are smart and we are just dumb, okay?) You are slowly selling out, why hesitate, go whole hog, (with emphasis on "hog") and sell out completely... Hey, "Dumb And Dumber" is a "classic" movie right? It's "classic" to someone for some reason and therefore qualifies. Start playing that one... Three times in a night... People stay home anymore and watch TV on weekends, (Friday and Saturday nights should be where you present your best classic programming) but, put it along with the other garbage you reserve for the weekends, (because you don't have a clue) it should fit right in. (And we'll all go online and catch truly classic movies on the internet.) Pffft! Another good concept started, totally screwed up by pimply-faced, "ideas" people that will make your station slightly more profitable short term: brilliant. It's not that you play Thelma And Louise on occassion... it's that we get panicked when we see a station we believe in slowly go the way of AMC! BTW, take those "gangster and classic Hollywood film icons" down from your logo... put Thelma And Louise there or maybe Forrest Gump or Ferris Bhueller. Anyway, be greedy and squeeze every penny out you can and before the good thing you set up and we believed in is ruined completly. Edited by: Thx on Mar 12, 2011 8:03 PM

    Site Issues...

Okay, I see it now, thanks. I guess what threw me is you have such a big site issues forum I wouldn't assume there would be so many topics. Huge section for this. Well, maybe a mod can scotch the whole thread here and I'll pester the "site tech" forum. Thanks. And maybe have someone address the issues of this thread. Your site needs a lot of work, but it is not hopeless. Thx

    Site Issues...

Okay... I'm looking for the "tech" forum and don't see it. And... am I the first person to be so confused here? I feel like Vinnie Barbarino. See, most forums have a "site issues", "site feedback" forum... they don't call it "tech"... "Tech" would mean "technology, movie technology"... "how do I hook up my VCR?"... "How did they make that monster disappear?"things like that. Hi Mr. Speilberg! Remember me, I was an extra in "1941" over there at Burbank in 1979... Sorry folks, if just a wash I figured this thread might be my big chance to make a "come back" lol. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 1:00 PM

    Site Issues...

You want to get the Mods attention to bring your concerns to the IT department, you need to take your concerns to the Tech forum one block down. This forum at the top says TCM Film Festival >> Questions and Concerns Your concerns are not Film Festival related and may not be seen by the right department. Try the Tech Forum where they are more likely to get seen by the Mods and your concerns may be heard. Just a thought. Yeah, the previous poster pointed this out and I responded. Maybe a mod can move the whole thread over there to "tech" like they do with other misplaced threads. Maybe. Okay, I'll go paste the thread over there. Thanks! Thx edit: Sorry all you film festival folks, didn't mean to get you all upset, this thread belongs in the "tech" section. (Gosh, I hope Steven Speilberg isn't reading this,) Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 12:36 PM

    Site Issues...

You've posted in the wrong area. This is the forum for Questions and Concerns for the TCM Film Festival. You want the Tech Forum. Sorry about that, but maybe you can see how one might put a thread like this in the "Questions And Concerns" forum? Questions and concerns about the board... Tech? Maybe someone would think of "movie tech"...Blue Ray, DVD... Most boards have a "site issues" forum. So you might want to re-title your forums too. I do like the fact you guys after three years were able to add the two smilies though. Comedy and drama who could ask for more, geez, and most sites have hundreds of these... I'm not bringing this stuff up (after three years) to be malicious. I'd honestly like to see you guys get with the program. Part of the reason I haven't posted here is because your message board is such a dog... Sorry. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 12:17 PM

    Site Issues...

Okay, I guess I need to dig a bit deeper. Say, another thing is that on the thread index board, instead of putting "next" at the end, set it to "last post". This saves folks from going through post 3, 6, 9, 12, 15... to get to the end of the thread. What is it with this "plain text help" menu at the side? I've never seen that at other boards like this one... http://www.enotalone.com/forum/index.php Um, we just post. I never have to do things like put my own HTML to make bold or quote. They have a button at top for bold, but I can't get it to work, what's with that? Thx

    Site Issues...

Also, I wanted to add... I realize it is not pleasant to hear that your message board is much less than standard. I would have PMed you... (PM... Private Message) except that is yet another common function I guess you are working towards or someone convinced you that you don't need. I know I rant, but it's because I care, because I'd like to see you do better TCM. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 11:13 AM

    Site Issues...

Also... geez, I'm sorry to pick this stuff out, does anyone work there at all? Your "discard" for the post function doesn't work. Am I missing the whole deal here? I'm trying to push the buttons, but they don't seem to work. Had to put in my own HTML for the bold function... Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 10:21 AM

    Site Issues...

No. You're about one or two Forums away. Just below this Forum area are the Forums for Technical Issues. Whoops, and here I am telling them to get thier stuff in one sock! :embarass: Thanks, but it is hard to navigate this site, one more problem with it. Say... TCM... I am sure that your IT guys are pretty busy trying to provide this message board (HTML patchwork) with functions most message boards have had for 10 years. Gee, a big company like you, it would figure you would have the best in the business. I wonder how other companies do it though... Hard won functions like smilies in post, functions they have had for 10 years... Now... Okay, you contracted with some IT to build your home/base, corporate site... ...later you add the message board... ...you ask the same company to "add on" a message board... ...it's a huge job... ...maga-hours... And in the end you will always have to struggle for basic message board functions... And you/we are stuck. Guys, let's not cry over spilt milk or be left behind... Get a proper message board and post it as a link off your main board! Are you insane? As hard as it is now to upgrade... (Upgrade? You have been left in the message board dust.) You might think about breaking away now to a proper message board. I know you have a million posts and threads at this board, but believe me, it can only get harder in the future. Just saying... Avatars would be a nice function too. (edit: No displayed pics afterall. ) I guess I need to study the "functions" list to the right. Never had to do this at other sites, guess yours is "special". No, they have kept you in the dark TCM. It is never like this at the millions of message boards on the net, yours is the unworthy exception, sorry again. Here, here's what a regular message board looks like... http://www.politicalgroove.com/forum.php It can be "themed", just like the other parts of your site... Thx edit: And I see they didn't put the "new browser for links" function in here. How can you hold your head up and call this a proper message board? Producer's kids took an IT course at PCC... 13. Hello TCM, I guess this is the equvalent of your "site issues" thread. I might suggest that your IT look at any typical v-bulletin site and get some tips there. Better yet, just go v-bulletin and you will have many more message board features than you have now. Gee, I see you added smilies and the ability to post pics... And no, I do not work for v-bulletin, just figured someone needed to state the obvious. Nice to see you finally catch up with the rest of the message board world. (And, I'm sure you paid your IT guys a whole lot more than the $189 it takes to set up a regular message board.) Nice graphics, hopefully your guys will be able to add more basic functions the other boards have had for years. Keep up the good work. (You do need to work on your Bold, Italics, and underline function though, maybe when the guys get on next shift they could take a look.) Again, nice to see the "smilie" function, maybe a few years from now you could integrate the "quote function. Oh, and that tutorial at the side makes it all much easier than just posting. Great to see you guys are into the "do it yourself" experience. Your site is pretty, but stinks functionally and always has... sorry. Get rid of these in house/consultant IT guys... they are taking you and all of us for a ride. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 6:56 AM

    TCM complaints

No, you don't appear to watch the channel if you think they show stuff like Pretty in Pink or The Breakfast Club regularly (Pretty in Pink was on last year during a theme month of "Teen Movies" examining them over the course of the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. It hasn't aired since.) The post-60s films, except for 31 Days of Oscar, never make up more than 10% of the schedule. Even this years 31 Days of Oscar only amounts to something like 45 post sixties films. TCM shows around 350 films a month, there's usually only about 30 on the schedule each month. In April there are only 16. Get over it. Hmm, I figured you would deny you ever played "Pretty In Pink" lol, thanks for comfirming the contemporary programming and offering the same feeble excuse: "It was for "Teen Movie" specials weekend." Exactly! That's what you do. So I guess for "Teen Angst Weekend" all us classic movie lovers should just aquess and switch the channel. Then for "Movies That Made Us Laugh" weekend (The Money Pit") we'll just have to go somewhere else then too. 31 Days Of Oscar" is also a good excuse to play movies we've all seen 100 times too. Sorry TCM, I would have expected more from you. Thx Compromise, bit by bit JUST LIKE AMC. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 5:49 AM
  15. That "charter" you have in mind never existed. As others have repeatedly pointed out, TCM's earliest advertising noted that films from the 1980s had a place on the channel. Nowadays (as right now) you come along with some excuse to play contemporary films. "31 Days Of Oscar". It's been around for many years. It wasn't invented for that purpose. 45 films out of 350 isn't a big deal. This is the only month where post 60s films breach the 10% of the schedule line. In April you'll only see 16 films made after the sixties. So now we have to suffer movies made in the 80s, 90, 2000 plus... just because they won an Oscar? TCM has played movies from the 80s since it first came on, 90s (few) and 2000s (very few) are likely to follow. Bit by bit you are going the way of AMC. No, they aren't. It's not even remotely close. Oh yes they are. They are going the way of AMC. Bit by bit, we will see comercials and rotten original productions. Okay, maybe they didn't have an original "charter", but in 1994 they certainly gave the inpressione it would be "classic movies, all the time". So, I guess their "charter" was "we will play contemporary movies you might just as soon see on TNT." So "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" is classic.... yeah, how did we end up here? Stop making excuses for this pitifull, shabby exercise in greed. Thx Edited by: Thx on Feb 21, 2011 9:21 AM
