  1. The recent third season was challenging and often seemed to defiantly fly in the face of the expectations of your standard classic TV show revival, which was a bit off-putting for longtime fans like myself. Nevertheless, I'm absolutely on board should they do another season.
  2. Sutherland got an honorary lifetime Oscar year before last, didn't he? One thing at a time.
  3. Not to mention Trump telling Howard Stern how hot he thought his own daughter was.

Your Choice For 1948 Best Song Oscar

I actually liked that song that Jack Carson sang. Some kind of "Rum and Coca-Cola" kind of thing, I've forgotten.
  5. Thanks, Lawrence, for the pic of John Farrow, who, after I look at him ... well, maybe Ronan isn't Frank Sinatra's son after all. Ronan's birth name, I believe, was Satchell, which I assume Woody took from legendary Negro Leagues and later-in-life Major League pitcher Satchell Paige. I've never heard any explanation for the name change, but I assume Ronan wanted the Japanese word for "loner" or "drifter" or more historically specific "lord without a master" to be indentified by. My understanding is that he's broken all contact with Woody. This whole mess is sad.

Movies with initial limited release in the final three months of the year are typically the ones assumed to be Oscar bait. Judy's per-screen average, given it was in fewer than 500 theaters, was phenomenal. It feels to me that the OP has some vendetta against Zellwegger or this movie in particular. I would say IMO that it was in no way, shape or form a bomb.

Movies That It Sometimes Feels That Only You Alone Like?

Oooh, I thought of one! I really like Heaven's Gate. I'm not sure I've ever met anyone, online or not, who also likes it. Especially not Cigar Joe (I think, sorry if I"m getting my fellow users mixed up)!

Movies That It Sometimes Feels That Only You Alone Like?

I vaguely remember liking Halloween III watching it on HBO in my adolescence. Completely unrelated to Jamie Lee Curtis or the other movies, but a pretty good stand-alone story. I almost could have seen it as a Hammer film. I saw Airplane II in the theaters, and I remember laughing harder than I'd ever laughed in my life for the first 15 minutes and then almost not at all for the rest of the movie. I don't think I've seen it since.

Your Choice For 1948 Best Song Oscar

Well, I wish I had an interesting story, but just from watching the cartoons as a kid. It was the first of those five songs I ever heard and the only one of the nominees I ever heard for many years.

Your Choice For 1948 Best Song Oscar

Well, the Woody Woodpecker song has certainly had the greatest impact on my life!
  11. Which would mean Mia was having an affair with her ex-husband almost 20 years after divorcing him and also makes a little hypocritical odd her going ballistic about Woody's affair, although I suppose that one felt like a double betrayal to her. I don't know. I'm struggling to think of a less scandalous word, but it all feels a bit incestuous, all these affairs with ex'es and current's adopted children. These people need to get out more and meet the rest of humanity?
  12. I see I left out a couple of important words in that post which I have now edited in.

Movies That It Sometimes Feels That Only You Alone Like?

If I ever got to be a guest programmer, I would pick Bull Durham as one of my movies, if TCM would let me. I have one friend and fellow baseball nut who also loves it. Otherwise, while I believe it's been generally pretty well critically praised, I don't know if I've met anyone in my personal life or on these message boards who much cares for it.
  14. Woody and at least one of his biographers have also alleged that the incident as described by the Farrows mirrors closely the lyrics of a song written by Dory Previn called "Daddy in the Attic", written before Woody and Mia even met. Dory was Mia's friend until Andre divorced her to marry Mia.
  15. I can't answer that. I probably shouldn't venture into personal opinion, but clearly the face of that girl is not Soon-Yi's face. I think a lot of white people just thought it was because it was an Asian face, the old "they all look alike to me" bit.

Also My Weekend with Marilyn with Michelle Williams?
  17. I wasn't actually referring to your post, but I also noted the whole thing was weird. Seriously, I am not trying to defend the guy. I'm just saying I've seen a lot of people say things that were factually inaccurate about him over the years.
  18. This is also erroneous. People just throw out these numbers. By all accounts I've ever read, Woody and Soon-Yi began a romantic relationship when he was 56 and she was 22. I'm not saying their relationship isn't WEIRD, but I've heard dozens of different people get the nature of their familial relationship (there was none) and her age at the time dramatically wrong, because a snippet of something they heard somewhere one time and automatically assuming it to be true without looking into it.
  20. This is one of Woody and Soon-Yi's adopted daughters, and here's a whole article about how people try to use this photo and others under false pretenses and with no context to advance their own theories about Woody:
  21. The A.V. Club is doing a series on romantic comedies, most of them from the 13 Going on 30/The Wedding Singer era, but here's a look at The Philadelphia Story by a writer I presume much younger than myself. I also enjoyed reading the comments below. I wonder what the conversation would be like between the poster who could only offer "dear lord" over the line about beating wives and Nipkow, who was delighted to show us a clip of Steve McQueen knocking around Ali McGraw.

A Fresh Look at The Philadelphia Story

Well .. there were more graphic sexual references in that reply than I'm accustomed to seeing around here.
  23. This incorrect piece of information has been repeated hundreds of times. Soon-Yi was NOT Woody's stepdaugheter, as she was the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn, and Mia and Woody never married. Both Woody and Soon-Yi have said they barely knew each other until shortly before they became romantic, and Soon-Yi has said she never considered Woody any kind of father figure.

A Fresh Look at The Philadelphia Story

That moment was used in a promo for, I think, TCM' spotlight on pre-Codes and certainly memorable.
