HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

Even us slobs at the jazz musical forum don't believe in the concept of 'legit' music or NOT. Instead we just call it crap.

    the democrat impeachment lynching scam

I hear you; I guess I just lost interested in all 'games' for a while,,,, and you're one of the only persons at this forum that know why that is!

    the democrat impeachment lynching scam

I think it was just a little bit more then "added some color" but yea, since he is a "pretty straight shooter" I was surprised he would be so sloppy and thus give Trump nut jobs an opening, however tiny, with regards to their silly deep-state, witch-hunt, and now lynching POV. PS: I found the above out last weekend talking to a Trump nut job. Every time I would try to get them to focus on the facts of the Ukraine phone call, based on Trump admin officials' own comments \ release of info,,,, this nut would just bring up Schiff and those comments.

    the democrat impeachment lynching scam

I don't understand why you appear to be playing Nipkows silly 'game' here: Nothing about the process so far (e.g. closed door hearings) has been 'illegal' (and illegitimate,,, that concept doesn't even come into play), expect maybe the comments Adam Schiff made that were factually incorrect (but like Trump Schiff can claim sloppiness instead of lying).

How is the exact length of a film determined?

Note that TCM doesn't always get those times listed correctly or they show an edited version when they said they were planning on showing a more 'complete' version (e.g. a pre-code film that was re-released by the studio after July 1934, when the CODE was enforced, where content that violated said CODE was removed). Another example is the showing of a British version instead of the American version (or vice-versa): Sometimes content was cut and in a few cases a different ending (American versions tended to have less realistic, 'happy' endings due to audiences preferences).

    The Exorcist Conventional?

I agree about that 'inner torment' which is why I added this "PS" after my initial posting: PS: The part of the film that touched me the most was that of the young priest and his 'story'; as noted this was a personal 'hell' and such mental trauma can occur without the 'need' for out-of-this-world stimuli. The side-story about the young priest didn't require the-devil-made-me-do-it, but most of the plot resolves around this silly concept.

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

Rickly Nelson had a lot of talent and I'm a fan. I added Traveling Man to my set as a homage to my late-brother. Note that the John Lennon \ Beatles song, This Boy uses 90% of the same musical structure as Traveling Man expect for the 'only the Beatles did this type of chord', a D9 used for the start of the bridge. But clearly John and Paul were influenced by Nelson, and of course those that influenced him, like Carl Perkins (e.g. What Goes On uses a Perkins chord progression).

    the democrat impeachment lynching scam

I hear you; As for the 1st reason; These witnesses will just rent suites in a Trump hotel that has been debugged, enter from a secret entrance, and thus co-ordinate their stories. I.e. they learned something from the very open meeting with Russians in Trump Towers! (or maybe not since this is a group of dummies). As for #2; I'm thankful for that.

    the democrat impeachment lynching scam

My guess is that Trump wants closed door hearings. So I'm surprised this is what the Dems are doing since, in the past, most of the hearings related to Trump's conduct or that of his staff, have been circus shows that offer little, if, nothing of value to the general public.

    Canadian Election Update

CPAN carried the election coverage; since the Monday Night Football game was over after 10 minutes I watched the election coverage. My wife was surprised but was actually happy; she only loves real football! Anyhow, congratulations to the libs; now they need to govern.

    The Exorcist Conventional?

For me you make way too many generalizations about how others 'view' the film. I can tell you that my group of friends that were raised by people that had us read Alan Walts and others like him, felt any 'horror' was a joke since,, well,, the devil is (as well as the concept of a 'god'). Living in So Cal I dated a few Latino Catholics; everyone of them believed the 'devil' was a real being and that thus satanic possession really, really happens and it was me that just didn't get it. I can't recall what the official RCC view of satanic possession and the devil-as-a-being are, but I doubt it is viewed in the same light as vampires,,,, PS: The part of the film that touched me the most was that of the young priest and his 'story'; as noted this was a personal 'hell' and such mental trauma can occur without the 'need' for out-of-this-world stimuli.

    The Triumph of Donald Trump

Isn't the standard progressive complaint that local officials need the assistance of the Feds and that too often the Feds just ignore these request?

    BLUE DENIM

That must have been over a decade after the Saved By the Bell had ended. Zack still looks like a teen!

    The Exorcist Conventional?

As an atheist I don't find the film unconventional; instead it applies conventional Catholic 'teachings' in the plot. E.g. the 'devil' is an actual being. Aren't these Catholic 'conventions' the reason people that believe in such things are 'freaked out' and what for them, separates such a horror film from those horror films where 99% of people know the 'fear' is made-up folly (e.g. vampires and werewolf don't actually exist)?

    2020 Election

Anyone that believes Dems using quotes from Russians is a sound political strategy for attacking Trump is CRAZY!!! Just use the facts, but NOT the quotes.

    Hong Kong protests....

Are these only the violent ones? The L.A. Times report today mentions the riots and all the destruction the protesters did the other day. The article ends with a statement from one of the protest leaders; "We're using peaceful, rational, nonviolent ways to voice our demands" said Figo Chan of Civil Human Rights Front. Yea???? Was I viewing doctored footage???? Maybe those writing the letters are those that know they will be participating in very violent protest and expect the government to respond in a similar manner (like our government they would do in the USA, but not in say France and where we saw how the yellow-jacket protesters gained too much control via violence).

    Archaic Expressions in Films

I can't recall that scene, but one use of the phase back in the 40s, was as sarcasm; as in "well, thanks,,,, for not much". So if in the scene Haskell does a favor that 99% of the general public would have done,,,, Al was being sarcastic.

Patricia Neal as SOTM January 2020

Audrey Hepburn charm is the main appeal in all of her performances. That is the main fascination; I admit I'm a sucker for her charms. I find Neal to be the better actress and one, as I stated above, that also has a unique screen persona. Even when allowed to over-do-it she still is compelling; E.g. have you seen Bright Leaf? The difference in how Bacall and Neal handle there roles is interesting. (just like Jack Carson and Cary Cooper).

    Democratic Debate

Yes, there is truth to the fact that Putin\Russia will try to create major discord within the Dem party and thus Dem leaning voters, as a way to assist in the re-election of Trump. But yea, no need to go public. Note that A.O.C. is the Dem most likely to unwitting assist Trump's re-election. E.g. Her open support of Sanders in the rally over the weekend. Sanders isn't going to be the nominee so what will A.O.C. do? OK, I assume she would half-heartily support the Dem nominee, but since her followers are so obsesses with all things A.O.C., will they follow her advise to now support someone other than Sanders?

Since I have seen every noir Eddie introduces I can't say if he gives away too-much. But I do like his take on these films.

    Double Indemnity Query

To me the wig 'works' so I don't view it as a mistake: this is how some bored housewives in LA LA Land decide is the way to make themselves more attractive (along with cheap jewelry). PS: remember the husband was cheap; so cheap stuff and a cheap look was all she could afford on her allowance!

    Democratic Debate

I know you put in "unwitting" but to me the posts still implied insane Hillary was on-to-something. NOT. Instead the only thing that was revealed is that Hillary has totally lost-it. PS: As for either 3rd party candidates and their supporters or Dem-party-losers and their supporters, not coming out to vote for the Dem nominee in 2020: Isn't Hillary the one that is upsetting Gabbard supporters and that could lead to them NOT voting for the Dem or even, please-say-no, voting for Trump? So it is Hillary that is unwitting doing Putin's bidding.

    Democratic Debate

I watch a lot of Russian news when I'm in the EU (a month or so a year, since Russia-Today and other programs are in English), and I find their news reporting on the Middle East to be more balanced than what I can find here in the USA (except PBS). I didn't find any of this reporting to be meddling in America politics but instead just pointing out the differences between the stuck-in-the-mud Middle East politics of 99% of American politicians catering to all things Israel and US pols like Gabbard. There is as much truth that Gabbard is a Russian asset as there is that Hillary attacked Gabbard because she is an Israeli asset.
