    New Now Playing Newsletter Email

Thanks loads. I'd like to read that other thread too. I will try to find it.
  2. I was hoping that someone could help me. I was a longtime subscriber to the TCM Now Playing magazine, and I subscribed to the new email version last May. But I never received it. And from what I understand, this new email version started last month in August, maybe even July? I subscribed to it again a couple of days ago, but I still have received nothing. This is very frustrating. Can somebody tell me what month the new Now Playing email started? Also, is there any way to get back issues? Would someone forward me a copy of theirs?

A Barrymore's Star of the Month suggested!

I agree with you, Tom. My suggestion to you and to everybody else that would like to see my Barrymore's Star of the Month suggestion come to fruition is to contact Charlie at TCM and let him know how you feel. I can’t give you his private email address, but you could contact him at the main email address of tcm@turner.com and put it to the attention of Charlie Tabesh.

A Barrymore's Star of the Month suggested!

Tom, Charlie Tabesh told me today that they are currently discussing potential stars-of-the-month for 2013 and that my Barrymores suggestion is under consideration. He reiterated that it's definitely a great idea and that even if they didn't do it in 2013, that they will definitely do it at some point.

    Ben Mankiewics question

I posted a question, but in the "General Discussions" category by mistake. Here's a link to it in case anybody didn't see it: http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=164157&tstart=0

    Ben Mankiewicz April fool's joke

If anybody has a DVR and can go back to 1pm (EDT) today, I was just curious what the little joke was that Ben Mankiewicz told at the beginning of his first movie intro today. I turned the TV on just at the end of the joke. It never fails.

    Robert Osborne's Return

Inspired by his tremendous work ethic, I reminded Robert of something the great stage and screen actress Helen Hayes was famous for saying: "If you rest, you rust."

    Robert Osborne's Return

Finance: My response was a collective one, as there were a total of three more guesses after your Tracy Lords guess: Molly Haskell (by AndyM108), Cari Beauchamp (by Clore) and Drew Barrymore (by both MGMMayer and Yanceycravat). Yancey: Those are six very good reasons to backup the guess that both you and MGMMayer made of Drew Barrymore. As for whether you two guys are actually right or not, all I can say for certain is that time will certainly tell. Hibi: Robert told me that when he goes to Atlanta to tape wrap-arounds and do other production work, he's there for a month at a time. And like Lzcutter said, there are *many* other things that Robert is involved with. Aside from his extracurricular TCM activities (like the annual TCM Film Festival and now the new TCM Cruise), Robert is a frequent guest speaker at different events across the country, he's also a frequent guest host for film screenings, he's an author, a columnist, and so on and so forth. Just hearing him tell me what his schedule is like is exhausting! I told him that I don't know how he actually does it, and that I'll never know. He told me that his schedule makes it hard for him to stay in touch even with family at times. I'm so glad and grateful that Robert does all that he does for the benefit of us adoring fans. BingFan: Funny you should mention about how it's hard to believe that someone of Robert's age could be that vibrant. I asked him how he does it and he said to me "you just have to keep going." I said to him in response that I'll be lucky to have half the energy he has when I get to be his age!

    Robert Osborne's Return

Dear TCM Friends, In order to keep my promise to Robert Osborne not to divulge it, I will neither confirm nor deny any of the guesses made here of his next co-host for the upcoming 2012 season of The Essentials. Thanks so very much in advance for understanding. *;-)*

    Robert Osborne's Return

No Finance, it's not Tracy Lords.

    Robert Osborne's Return

While I am not at liberty to divulge the person's name, I'm sure Robert wouldn't mind me divulging just the gender of his new co-host for the upcoming 2012 season of The Essentials (which he begins filming here in New York later this month). It is a *woman* -- and a very exciting one at that!

    Robert Osborne's Return

You're very welcome MovieGal. It was a great pleasure to speak with Robert Osborne the other day and just to let you know, he will actually begin working again in two weeks when he will begin filming the wrap-arounds for the 2012 season of The Essentials. The filming will be done here in New York and after three years with Alec Baldwin, Robert will have a new co-host which I would love to be able to share here, but since it has not been officially announced yet, Robert asked me not to divulge who it is yet. And thanks for the congrats on the Barrymore's Star of the Month suggestion; it looks like it's really going to come to fruition!

A Barrymore's Star of the Month suggested!

Without divulging the details of how it came about, I spoke to Robert Osborne earlier today and he is doing quite well, sounding great and thoroughly enjoying his vacation. I just wanted to mention that one of the things that I asked him is if he will continue doing the full wrap-arounds (intros and outros) for the films when he returns to TCM later this fall, and he assured me that he absolutely will! The 'intros only' format that TCM is currently practicing with the guest hosts is only temporary until he returns. So no worries; we will get Robert back *100%* when he returns! Oh, and Robert told me that he really liked my Barrymore's Star of the Month suggestion and that he hoped TCM chief Charlie Tabesh will do it!
