    I Just Watched...

"Alice" - Woody Allen - 1990 - starring Mia Farrow, William Hurt, Joe Mantegna, Keye Luke, etc. - A strange film, even from Woody Allen, about a married woman's spiritual/mystical journey throughout the latter part of her marriage - once she visits a Chinese herbalist (in Chinatown), life becomes "surreal" indeed - she becomes more aggressive, can make herself "invisible" and can materialize a lost lover - suddenly, she sees possibilities that she has never seen before - and, of course, is emboldened to change her life - she moves to India with her two children and adopts the lifestyle of Mother Theresa - (no, I am not kidding!) - (and Woody Allen keeps a straight face throughout the entire film) - a beautiful and haunting performamce from Mia Farrow - and solid ones from the various men in her life -

The only real problem with "Tomorrow, The World" is its' "happy ending".

A complicated love story - distinguished by two fine performances - Alan Bates and George de la Pena.

    A Very English Scandal

"The Man in the Orange Shirt" is one of the great gay love stories. Both of the actors, so deeply in love, are memorable.
  10. Alfred Lutter as Tommy in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" -
  11. Mona Freeman and James Dunn in "That Brennan Girl" - 1946 - Alfred Santell - he looks like her father - but maybe that's the point -

With Woody Allen, from year to year, you never know what kind of movie you are going to get. Look at "To Rome,With Love", it is almost totally disposable. And, yet, it is full of an quirky charm that is irresistible.

TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film

"Tomorrow The World" has such a happy ending - a happy ending that doesn't fit.
  18. Yes, I remember watching "Pufnstuf" on Saturday mornings. How did you find the DVD set? "The Pied Piper" with Donovan, is a very interesting film. It was directed by the man who gave us "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg". I am so glad that you enjoyed "Flight of the Doves". I'd like to read the book.

Below, John David Carson as the gorgeous young man who saves us from the giant ants in "Empire of the Ants" (1977) - unfortunately, not fast enough, the star, Joan Collins, gets eaten by a giant ant (?!) -

Night of films to commemorate Stonewall

Late in life, Carlton Carpenter wrote a series of gay mysteries. And, yet, I am unable to track them down. Does anyone have any of them?

    "Bohemian Rhapsody"(2018)

Rami Malek seemed such an unlikely choice for Freddie Mercury - and yet he was so brilliant and won the Best Actor Oscar.

Might "A Very English Scandal" be available On Demand?
  25. I've never heard of "Melody". But, believe me, "Flight of the Doves" is a fine film.
