The format of the show - "Magnum, PI" - and the performances of the two stars - actually encouraged all the gay rumors. They knew what they were doing. Magnum was always running after some woman. But we knew that he came home to Higgins' loving care at night.

"Anastasia" was her return to American filmmaking. Her first film with Roberto Rossellini, "Stromboli", was one of her worst films.

Betty Lou Keim, who was so good in this film, was, at the Oscars telecast, refused an "in memoriam" tribute. Wasn't this one the last film of Edmund Goulding? The transfer to DVD destroyed the Cinemascope format.

Frank Tashlin could really make BAD screen comedies.

The male bulge is an important factor in the marketing of male TV stars.

They needed that girlfriend for Higgins, because, week after week, you waited for that smooch between Magnum and Higgins. Or, as a boyfriend of mine used to say, H&M - honey/man. The poses were so homoerotic. Magnum's basket seems ready to burst.

  15. In "The Opening of Misty Beethoven", Casey Donovan (Cal Culver) was topped by a woman with a ****. But he wasn't subjected to converting to heterosexuality, was he? He really did enjoy that ****.

Yes, the posters, which I ran into more than once, were put up by a group called "Outpost". Mr. Selleck sued the parent company, "The Globe". His aura can be perceived as homoerotic, though. (Especially in his weekly dealings with his manservant, who was played by an obviously gay actor.) "Higgins?!" They were practically "a couple".

Remember when there were posters all over New York City - proclaiming that Tom Selleck was GAY. He called for them to be taken down. He said that such "nastiness" shouldn't be posted in public places.

Aging naturally - and gracefully - is certainly preferable to so much of the obvious plastic surgery that is embraced by American actors. Look at Vanessa Redgrave - she has certainly aged - and she looks lovely.
  19. Stanley Donen was well-known for his collaborations. In "Bedazzled", he brought us the genius of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

Today, on MeTV, from 5PM to 7PM, there will be two hours of "The Monkees". Enjoy!

I prefer to remember David Hemmings as "golden" in "Blow-Up", (1966), of course, and "The Best House in London" (1969). That something drastic happened to him in his later years cannot be denied. He did write an autobiography, I believe. Today, there are so many procedures that cause actors and actresses to look years younger than they actually are. But they can't quite re-capture that long-gone beauty and youth. However, they do try.
  23. "Arabesque" doesn't get much love - but it was certainly an effective thriller. He also knew his way around wordy comedies - and could turn them into movies - like "Indiscreet" and "The Grass Is Greener".

Pauline Kael made that famous anti-Antonioni statement about the absolutely great film, "Eclipse".
