  1. Barbara Feldon (99) said this ("Be careful. Some of it's getting in your mouth") to Don Adams (Maxwell Smart) in an episode of Get Smart! Mel Brooks stole a joke from a western? I can't imagine.
  2. In my line of work, supervisors have channeled the Knights Who Say Ni (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and have essentially asked me to chop down a tree with a herring.

    Teachers In Movies

The teacher (can't find the name of the character or actress) whose glasses are shattered by David Bennant's screaming in The Tin Drum. Donald Sutherland's college professor in Animal House. Ray Walston as Mr. Hand (and Vincent Schiavelli as Mr. Vargas) in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Noah Wyle, Drew Barrymore, and Kitty Farmer in Donnie Darko. Richard Dreyfuss as the music teacher in Mr. Holland's Opus.

    Replace SUTS with WUTS

They should do this only if it's Russian and Swedish films from 10 pm - 4 am to really set the mood. OK, a few Canadian films, plus With Byrd at the South Pole, Ice Station Zebra, and Slap Shot.
  6. One of the characters in this film is Tony Provenzano, played by Stephen Graham. He was a friend of my father's. Then again, so was Jimmy Hoffa.

    Painfully inappropriate casting.

Bleached blonde American Jan Sterling as the (in the book) brunette, British, freckle-faced Julia in 1984. The semi-Americanization of the ultra-British novel made it unwatchable. Frankly, Sterling couldn't act even when she was playing bleached blonde American women.
  8. Lisa Mitchell, who played Lulua, one of Jethro's daughters, is alive.

Oscar the Grouch. Duh. And they should hand out gold spray-painted mini-garbage cans as the award.

    For the “Black Month Crowd”

Yes, Asians on film was done years ago as part of TCM's annual series of minorities on film. http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/196827|0/Race-Hollywood-Asian-Images-in-Film-Tuesdays-Thursdays-in-June-.html

This is the Dawning of the Age of Being Canceled

With NRA sponsorship, they could do it in Russian. Anya Get Your Kalashnikov.
  12. The Greeks pronounced the initial p. The French still do (the French word for tire (n) is "pneu", and they pronounce it "puh-NUH". So I guess the Romans did too. Those silent initial p's and k's in English were pronounced up until a few centuries ago. And Predator should have been a screwball comedy, anyway.

Films and evolution of human being

There are lots of these. I especially love the late 1930's to early 1950's crime movies when the detective startles the suspect by proving he was at the scene of the crime by producing <da da dahHHH!> a PHOTOSTATIC copy of the page of the hotel registry with his signature! Also, I remember the telephone message recording machine that Ralph Meeker had in Kiss Me Deadly (1955). It was a giant reel-to-reel tape machine the size of a suitcase. It was built into his wall. Was that the first one to appear on film?
  14. Yes, I'm one of those "illegal aliens" (from Planet Jersey) who brought my New Jersey voting history to Orange County. I am personally responsible for flipping all those House seats...
  15. I'm from New Jersey. Where I live now I can hear the fireworks from Disneyland every night around 9:30. My sister moved out here before I did and was in "the business" for years. Where do you think all those weird Californians came from? NEW JERSEY. Same folks. Better weather.

Classic Era Film actresses who did nudity

Surprised that no one has mentioned Renee Adoree in The Mating Call (1928). She jumps into a lake naked and we see everything for about a second. TCM showed this years back when they had an evening of movies that Howard Hughes produced.

Classic Era Film actresses who did nudity

A recent (as of 1960) Playboy cover model was the "body" in the shower scene in Psycho. She was much more comfortable being naked in front of the crew than Janet Leigh. It's a body double, just like Maureen O'Sullivan in Tarzan. https://people.com/movies/janet-leigh-body-double-pyscho/
  18. These photos are probably of Mennonites. They come from the same Anabaptist tradition as Amish, but do not dismiss technology. They live and dress conservatively, but use electronics. They keep to themselves. I've seen Mennonites on the subway and airport. On most days you can see groups of them at the Museum of Science and Technology in Chicago (well, it seemed like that in the early 1990's). I've even seen Mennonites driving on Sunday. The prohibition-era movie Lawless (2012) has a Mennonite family featured prominently in it.

    Any suggestions for Nazi movies?

    Yes, I think that's it.

    Any suggestions for Nazi movies?

I remember seeing a film on TCM about an American Jewish young woman who goes to Europe in the 1930's to be an opera singer. She's captured by the Nazis after the outbreak of the war. Anybody remember that one and know what the title was?

Changes Coming for the Academy Awards

The way things are going, it may take less than 500 years before the film "A*s" sweeps the Academy Awards like in the film Idiocracy.

When 'good guy/gal' actors suddenly play evil....

But Fred MacMurray played the rat in The Caine Mutiny, before The Apartment.
  23. I saw 280 pages in this forum. I had never seen more than 9 or 10 before. I think the intent of the spammer goes beyond getting hits on search engines now, this is some psychopath who wants to take down this website for the "lulz". I do not know how the page admin works, but at this point I would be in favor of not letting anyone start a new account until they can figure out how to keep this person or organization from rendering the forums useless every night. It used to just be weekends. My guess is that they're bypassing the admin approval of new accounts anyway, though.
