  1. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47642327?ocid A UN court has rejected an appeal by Bosnian Serb former leader Radovan Karadzic and increased his sentence to life in prison. The tribunal on Wednesday ruled that his initial sentence was too light. In 2016 Karadzic, 73, was found guilty of genocide and war crimes by a UN tribunal in The Hague and given a 40-year prison sentence. He planned the Srebrenica massacre of July 1995 - the worst atrocity in Europe since World War Two. Karadzic had said his conviction was based on "rumours". He launched an appeal against his sentence last year, telling judges that the expulsion of Muslims and Croats in the 1990s had been "myths". Karadzic, a former psychiatrist, was president of the Bosnian Serb entity Republika Srpska during the Bosnian War in the 1990s. But the tribunal rejected the majority of Karadzic's appeal, instead ruling the sentence was too lenient. The former leader cannot appeal the tribunal's decision. He sat in the chamber on Wednesday and did not react to the ruling. Correspondents say the ruling is likely to be one of the last remaining hearings stemming from the bloody break-up of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. In its original verdict, the UN tribunal ruled that Karadzic and other leaders were responsible for the "organised and systematic pattern of crimes committed against Bosnian Muslims and Bosnian Croats". At Srebrenica, Bosnian Serb soldiers slaughtered nearly 8,000 Muslim men and boys in a "safe area" protected by Dutch peacekeeping forces for the UN. Judges also held Karadzic responsible for the siege of Sarajevo, a campaign of shelling and sniping which lasted more than three years and led to the deaths of an estimated 10,000 civilians. After the war, Karadzic hid for years masquerading as an expert in alternative medicine before his eventual arrest in Serbia in 2008. Former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic was sentenced to life in prison on similar charges of war crimes and genocide in November 2017.

Do you give silent films your own soundtrack?

Chaplin composed music for many of his films and his are probably my favorite themes/ soundtracks from the silent era. I never watch them with any public domain score and I don't even like the Gold Rush re-release with a jazz score.

    Where’s Ben?

Yeah, I think his hair is pretty nice too. I don't mind it. Also I think he looks a lot like the Russian actor Konstantin Khabensky.

Do you give silent films your own soundtrack?

I listen to whatever soundtrack comes with the film. These movies were usually done with accompaniment and that is the way I watch them. It does annoy me however when composers add completely different music that does not flow with the film. Sometimes the soundtrack used for the film shown on TCM will be too much and I mute it. I prefer when the soundtrack is something soothing and calm like Grieg, Bizet or other romantic era composers that are often selected from.

    10 Paintings Revisited

My favorite painting of all time is "Blut und Eisen" by German anti-fascist John Heartfield. I also like this one by Kazimir malevich entitled "The Knifegrinder." Malevich self portrait from 1933.
  11. Beautiful film. One of my favorite Wenders' films, right up there with Wings of Desire.

Some of the phonetically correct English really sounds like Latin or Ancient Greek to me.

    Painfully inappropriate casting.

For me, it's whenever famous, attractive personas play shy, loner characters. WAY too many films come to mind. Marcello Mastroianni as the shy, celibate priest in The Priest's Wife. (because of course Mastroianni is the first to come to mind when you think "celibate" ) Cary Grant in Bringing Up Baby. I know this one is a classic but I feel his role would have been much better given to Harold Lloyd or someone like that instead.

    NZ mosque attack....

The most truly bizarre thing about all this is the gunman mentioned the YouTuber/ internet comedian "Pewdiepie" right before coming his attack. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattperez/2019/03/15/pewdiepie-sickened-by-reference-from-suspected-christchurch-gunman/#595ba88a6f66
