  1. Belladonna is one of my favorite anime films. I love the violent, erotic imagery.

Come Back, Africa (1959) Lionel Rogosin, South Africa - 4/10 - the lives of various natives in South Africa under the Apartheid system as they're not even allowed to leave their province without a passport. This was on TCM a while ago and meh. Had some nice shots of Johannesburg but not for me.
  4. Mummy's Boys is really meh and the racist scenes do not age well. My favorite Wheeler and Woolsey film is Girl Crazy.

    Criterion cartoon

I can't find it on the Criterion forum, could you link the page at least? I tried searching "criterion cartoon september 2019" but didn't get anything.
  6. I wish they would show He's Alive. It has a good message and was Serling's favorite episode. It's often forgotten because it was an hour long episode from the later seasons.
  7. It's not about getting sympathy I think, but making society afraid of them. Shootings like this are a way for these weaklings to feel power over others for once in their lives. I agree with Larry that it's not the film's fault if they are inspired to commit violence as I highly doubt that is the director's vision.

    T & Ukraine whistleblower complaint....

I used to be skeptical of Trump being impeached but with an actual whistleblower from government coming forward that changes everything.

yes, climate change is a fact

https://www.mediaite.com/politics/philosopher-slavoj-zizek-praises-greta-thunberg-her-message-is-simply-take-science-seriously/ Philosopher Slavoj Zizek Praises Greta Thunberg: Her ‘Message Is Simply Take Science Seriously’ Slovenian philosopher, author, and political commentator Slavoj Žižek praised 16-year-old climate change awareness activist Greta Thunberg during an interview with JOE this week. “That’s what I like about Greta Thunberg, that girl. Her message is simply: ‘Take science seriously,’” Žižek declared. “She is, if there ever was a person who speaks with a certain hatred, with almost what I would say, what they call ‘toxic masculinity.’ It’s her. Autistic and so on. We need autistic women like that, because her message is a beautiful one, nonetheless correct.”

    The Soap Opera Thread

How about Twin Peaks? It's more of a parody of soap operas with the fictional show-within-the-show "Invitation to Love" a parody of the more soap elements of the show.

The Bloody Battle of Taierzhuang (1986), Guangyuan Yang, China (mainland) - 6/10- this movie is about the Nationalist efforts in the Battle of Taierzhuang in the 1930s. It is notable because this is the first film from the mainland to show the Nationalists and Kai-Shek in a somewhat positive light, although they are depicted as disorganized and clueless. In one scene, a Nationalist general is even put to the firing squad for letting Shandong province fall to the Japanese. The acting is a bit stiff as are most mainland Chinese films of the 1980s but the film is a decent retelling of the Chinese struggle against the Japanese in this era. This is also one of the first mainland films to be screened in Taiwan.
  15. I noticed they're showing Best Years of Our Lives because one of the plots is about an amputee victim of war. Another good one to program that I like would have been the Big Parade (though he only loses his leg near the end).

    I'd like to forget it.
  20. He probably just means using the polls to make an educated guess of who will win, which isn't a good idea anyways because there are too many factors and a poll sample is a small fraction of the voting population.
