  1. I'd like to invite everyone to come join a new social network I started today called The Golden Age of Hollywood Social Network. It's an offshoot of a message board we started several years ago but as technology changes so does the way we communicate and link up. I'd love to get as many classic film buffs and lovers to join as possible. The network allows you much like Facebook or Myspace to set up your own personal page. You can add pics, videos, music and blogs. You can customize the look to fit your personality. You can even start subgroups within the network. For instance, if you wanted to start a Humphrey Bogart fan club you could. Or fans of silent films or anything else related to classic films. Come join and check it out. I think you will really enjoy the site. If you do join add Ktrek as one of your friends will ya? Here is the link to the network: http://goldenageofhollywood.ning.com/ Kevin aka Ktrek

    Casino Royale

I saw this film yesterday and have to say first of all that I have been a huge fan ever since my mom and dad took me to see a Thunderball and Goldfinger doubleheader at the drive-in when I was nine years old. I have owned all the DVDs and seen every film at least once a year and have read all the books. All I can say about Casino Royale is.... WOW! It's about time they get it right! This is the closest that any Bond film has ever come to doing the Ian Fleming Bond justice. Daniel Craig is rough and masculine and is believably dangerous. And yet he can be suave and debonair when needed. The action directing is absolutely unbelievable and amazing. Of all the films I have seen this year it tops the list. I'm certainly glad that Daniel Craig has signed on for at least two more Bond films. The only problem will be is...how do you top this one? Kevin

The topic for the chat which will last between 1 and 2 hours is : MATINEE FAVES Remember those Saturday afternoons when you thrilled to the exploits of Flash Gordon, Zorro, Captain Marvel, superman, Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Superman etc. This chat is a celebration of those fun serials from the silents to the 50s also the second feature series movies like Holmes, Chan, Moto, Bulldog Drummond, Dick Tracy and many others. We will possibly consider the history of the serial and the B movie through the specialists like Republic and Monogram. How entertaining are these movies now ? Do they provide a window into the past in that they are more regular movie fare than the big studio releases and so-called classics ? Did any TV series or movies follow in the tradition of the cliffhanger serials ? Hope to "see" you in the chat room on Sunday, Take care, Derek (Classic Movie Man) PS : After this chat I'm considering reducing the official chats to fortnightly. The Radio Show will be one week the chat the next. I'm also thinking of asking the members what you what to chat about and I'm prepared to move the Sunday chat to a bit later in the day if it will help make it easier for people to attend.

  10. You are invited to join the Golden Age of Hollywood Message Board's weekly chat. You do NOT have to be a member to join the chat. On the main page just below the banner there is a link called "CHAT". Click and sign on. http://www.goldenageofhollywood.com Below is the official announcement: Hi Everyone, Classic Movie Man is off on holiday next weekend so there won't be a specific themed chat next Saturday. I propose we have a general Classic movies chat at the regular times : SATURDAY 6th MAY at 10.00 p.m. UK Time 5.00 p.m. ET 4.00 p.m. CT 3.00 p.m. MT 2.00 p.m. PT 1.00 p.m. AT Derek has decided that during the four months May, June, July and August we will have themed chats just once a month. This is because people are more likely doing outdoor activities during this time or are on holiday. We can still meet up on Saturday but chats will be more general and casual most of the time. Remember too the chatroom is open all the time. He's also thinking of trying a change in the time as an experiment. I wonder if people who have difficulty making the early afternoon/evening chats on US time might find it easier to make it in the mornings. This might be better for the summer months too. In view of the plans people make we're going to give you a bit more warning of the topics for the four likely Summer themed chats. Here they are : 13th May : HITCHCOCK AND WELLES 10th June : SCREWBALL AND ROMANTIC COMEDY 8th July : ADAPTATIONS : Classic Books on Film 12th August : WESTERN HEROES (Gary Cooper, John Wayne, James Stewart, Henry Fonda) These dates aren't set in stone : if you are on holiday and want to make one of these chats just say and we will try to accommodate you. Over the summer we will continue to announce chats whether general or themed as usual and issue e-mail reminders. Any changes in the time will be clearly stated. We're willing to listen to any comments you might have about these plans and any suggestions you have about the chats in general. We propose that from September we return to the weekly themed chats.
