  1. Next monday is my favorite day,Robert Montgomery all day! I will watch 2 of the few i have not seen,Man in possession is one of them, maybe the last time it aired was in early 2006 as Star of the Month TCM showed ALL his movies, do not miss Mystery of Mr X a great who done it,yes Robert Montgomery his hughly underrated,i praised him several times 10 years ago as i was discovering his work while watching movies featuring other actresses. He was a smart, smooth leading man,the most versatile of the 30's for sure,He should get another shot as Star of the Month. If he did not quit for politics he would have been a pretty good director as he was doing some directorial work at the end of his movie career.

Ava Gardner looks just like Hedy Lamarr

She went into producing movies in 1946,Lady of The Tropics is from 1939,after it tanked Mayer still did not know what to do with her but for reason unknown,he refused to loan her out to Warners for Casablanca, if you want to read a great book on Casablanca you should read The USUAL SUSPECTS,a fascinating book solely written on the movie production.,if you have not read it,you will discover fantastic info....

Ava Gardner looks just like Hedy Lamarr

Yes i know very well it was her only color movie in her career up to that point,To see her in Lady of the Tropics in color would have been amazing, the 2 movies she produced were ok but as i said they tanked at the box office it killed her financially,by the way i know you like George Sanders a lot,me too, he had an affair with Hedy during the filming of The Strange Woman .

Ava Gardner looks just like Hedy Lamarr

After her MGM she was disatisfied with the majors so Zanuck knew she was not interested in any contract. she decided to go into production which was a fatal mistake, the 2 movies tanked,The Strange Woman and Dishonored Lady, she lost mot of her money in the 2 movies, she was chosen by De Mille for Delilah

My humble opinion,Hedy was the most beautiful woman in the first 50 years on the Silver Screen,no wonder all the famous photographers of the era wanted to have photo sessions with her,the results were fantastic.Too bad Mayer did not know what to do with after he signed in 1938...her carrerwould have been better with Zanuck at Fox,imagine her with Tyrone Power!

To reply to KIDABB comment on Bennett and Hedy,it was confusing for many people as Joan Bennett change her hairdo when Hedy started in Hollywood, the BENNETT period is called her Lamarr looks.
  10. Hi some of her worthwhile performances are HM Pulham Esquire,Experiment Perilous,Comrade X with Gable ,Lady of the Tropics this one was a bomb in 1939 but it is a good soaper with Robert Taylor,Hedy clothes and looks are fabulous in it,She was a much better actress, she was underrated,Also for your info, she did not turn down Casablanca as a rumour say,it is L B Mayer who refused to loan her out... what is worse is that by 1940 he did not know what to do with her,he more or less ruined her career she had more talent than he thought. She was involved with Billy Wilder around 1946 too bad he did not cast her in a movie during the period.

    I Just Watched...

I finally got a hold of The Perfect Specimen last night the 1937 comedy by Michael Curtiz with Errol Flynn and Joan Blondell, from the internet,i was stunned to see a TCM logo on it,but it was a permanent one not the one we see every 20 minutes i have been with TCM for 11 years and i do not recall the movie being aired,it was probably shown between 1994 to 2000 any body can answer about the last broadcast? the film itself is not very good when you consider the cast and the director but Errol is in his physical prime and very good in this very light romantic comedy. This is my find of the year so far, last year it was Letty Lynton 1932 with Robert Montgomery and Joan Crawford

the Outsider from 61or 62, he was really good in it.
  16. BANNING it is the only one i have not seen, please TCM....
  17. Strange analogy ...,then anything can be true...they were involved during Call of the Wild and she obviously refused to get an abortion due to her personnal beliefs,i bought the Lewis book many years ago, unfortunately i can not read it again as it is elsewhere. Her pregnancy was covered up by MGM and i do not believe the rape story, otherwise Loretta Young would have never worked with him again, Even drunk Gable would not have raped a woman, the reverse situation was more likely.Anyway Carole Lombard always teased him about his performance in the sack.Young and Gable had a fling on the set it is totally normal but it produced a kid,no need to believe he raped her.
  18. Gable did not need to rape any woman, actually,he enjoyed secretaries ,waitresses etc the scandal got covered by MGM,.

    John Gilbert's Voice

you are absolutely right sorry for the confusion.

    John Gilbert's Voice

His voice was ok,Mayer's relation with him was not, one of them knocked out the other over an argument about Garbo,Mayer was very strong,he knocked out a few performers,i do not remember if he ko Gilbert or if it was vice versa, his contract was at $250000 per picture and Mayer wanted to get rid of it,actually if i remember well Redemption was released BEFORE His Glorious Night.
