Princess of Tap posted a topic in Off Topic Chit-ChatIn recent weeks a number of rich and famous men have been accused of sexual harassment with charges that range from lewd remarks and groping all the way to rape. None of these men are more famous than trump, the "President" of the United States. Since the Access Hollywood audio tape, where trump actually bragged about sexual battery of women, women from all over the country have been accusing trump of inappropriate sexual contact and sexual battery on a number of levels. Initially he said he would sue these women-- nothing has come of that. With so many famous men in politics, business and in the entertainment industry being toppled by these accusations, you have to wonder how much longer trump can hold on until his accusers get their day in court. No one is above the law and it will be interesting to see how this all turns out within the current climate of Americans not tolerating, any longer, rich and powerful men who take sexual advantage of women, and men, who don't have their money and clout.
What are some of your recommendations for biopics of real-life women? This topic is intended to be year round and refer to any era or country. It is inspired by the fact that today is International Women's Day but make no mistake, this is a thread about movie portrayals of women in all aspects of life whose lives have been captured on screen. Sometime biopics are accurate, sometimes they are influenced by the era in which they were made and what was allowed to be shown on the screen at that time. Furthermore, sometimes the autobiographies upon which they are based are biased, such as Anna L. perhaps increasing the actual influence she had on the Siamese King. Some biopics that come to mind that I recommend are: Blossoms in the Dust The Nun's Story I'll Cry Tomorrow With a Song in My Heart Love Me or Leave Me Smash Up: The Story of a Woman The King and I as well as Anna and the King
I'm teaching a 3 part course in the way Hollywood has depicted women in corporate executive positions. I begin with "Female" and end with "Prada". Am looking for a tong 1950-80ish piece to bridge them. Any suggestions?
