phillyfilmbuff posted a topic in MAD ABOUT MUSICALS: THE HISTORY OF THE HOLLYWOOD MUSICALSDoes anyone else think they have suddenly crammed notes from the last 3 weeks and beyond all into today’s (Thursday) material? Yikes!! :spinning head: Or is it me? And a ton of it is all new material about the time line we covered! It’s a 4 week wrap up!
phillyfilmbuff posted a topic in MAD ABOUT MUSICALS: THE HISTORY OF THE HOLLYWOOD MUSICALSI can remember seeing what is being called a roadshow throughout the 50s. My parents would take me into Center City Philadelphia to all the large extravagant theatres to see films like The Robe, The Ten Commandments, Around The World in Eighty Days, Pepe, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Ben-Hur, Giant, for starters. They all came replete with overtures, intermissions, programs in the lobby and my favorite - bon bons! So I’m thinking roadshow wasn’t new to the 60s. In fact, I recently got the roadshow edition of Since You Went Away! Wasn’t that the 40s?
Hi everyone I am new to this forum. I was told by a friend that I should come here to ask my movie trivia question for a movie that I saw as a child because I keep thinking about it but can't figure out what it is and I know I didn't dream of it. My dreams are never this vivid lol . I did'nt see a topic for it so I thought I would start a new one. OK here is the question: I am trying to find out the name of a movie I watched as a child but I only remember one scene from it that happens kind of quickly. I think that the movie takes place in the late 50's early 60's ( from the looks of the clothing ) and it is in color. What i remember is there is a blonde woman ( possibly Doris Day , shes the only blonde Actress from the 60's I could think of but again I don't know ) in a beige or white peacoat with Matching small round hat and your watching the screen as if your across the street from her watching where she is going ( as if your a bird or something and not actually in the area that they are in but close enough to see everything going on is the only way I can explain that kind of movie shot) . She goes back into a alley way and goes into a warehouse and she is obviously looking for someone ( she finds them after this part) and there is crazyness going on with a bunch of girls changing clothes with older women helping them .One of the older women spots the person in the coat and I guess she thinks that she is one of the models that are late, the older woman signals to another older woman to come over. They grab the blonde and take her and sit her in a makeup/ salon reclining chair , then it looks like they start to take off her shoes, other pieces of clothing and one woman takes off her hat ,pulls out bobby pins from her hair and looks like shes trying to shampoo her or something but this group of women is crowding around her getting her ready for what you come to find out is a fashion show in the next scene after the screen goes black for 2 sec and switches ,The woman in question does try to sit up to leave but theyre kind of not holding her down but definately keeping her from getting up . There is no actual talking in this part to my memory just music and it goes kind of fast when they spot her and get her ready .after the screen goes to where they have the fashion show going on there is talking again and she comes out and is wearing a dress ( to my memory it was blues & green ). She spots the man she was looking for and he sees her and gives her the gesture as if to say " what are you doing up there " and she looks at him from the stage and shugs her shoulders and raises her hands as to say " i don't know " and starts to run into a couple other models . AND thats all I remember. If someone can get through all that and know what I am talking about that would be great. SORRY I typed so much , I just wanted to put everything I remembered .
I think, for me, I thoroughly enjoyed The Bad Seed (1956), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) and The Thing from Another World (1951; despite its corniness; "Keep watching the skies!") What are some y'all have seen that you thought were weird/strange, scary/creepy, or just things that made you think?
