Oh, I know, but most (I thought all) the members of SCTV were Canadian.

The only other Canadian 'comic' (apologies to all comics out there) I knew was Carrey, and I loathe and despise him.

Y'know what pi**es me off about MST3K? Me and my buddies used to get KICKED OUT of the local movie house for doing the SAME THING!

We had NO IDEA we could make money doing that! (actually, I LOVED that show!)

The costumed late night host is a favorite phenomenon of mine. Most likely the reason I was attracted to MST3K.

In Rochester NY we had the opposite sort of thing, "The SHHHH Show" on early Saturday mornings. It was hosted by the same guy who did news & "Dialing For Dollars" (remember those?) He'd whisper "Be quiet, your parents are still sleeping..."

They showed public domain films, mainly sci-fi, horror & kids comedy. That developed many a kid's interest in classic film and my argument for the worth of William Castle, Ed Wood, Abbott & Costello and other schlocky kid's fare.

I could watch most anything except for 13 Ghosts. That opening scared the bejesus out of me, I'd quickly turn it off! In my 20's I decided to face my fears once & for all and rented it from my local video store. I laughed my butt off and actually became an avid William Castle fan because of it.

The sketch is actually titled Dr. Tongue's 3-D House of Stewardesses . They actually push things back and forth at the camera. Here it is, complete with Count Floyd.

I'm 44, Morgus is to far back to for me to remember. My earliest memories are around 72/73, (one of them is getting meningitis and having a spinal tap at Martin Place Hospital in Madison
Heights, now St John Oakland. My dad was on staff their.)

One of my favorite Count Floyd Films is Dr Tongue House Of Stewardesses. The 3D part consisted of waving objects in front of the camera.

sfpcc1, you forgot to mention MORGUS, who hosted a horror movie show late night on weekends in the mid '60's in Detroit. Maybe you're younger than I am. Anyway, he was costumed like an Igor send-up, "mad scientist" sort of guy. But yeah, SIR GRAVES was on a lot longer. That guy was a hoot.

I remember the funniest thing about "Count Foyd" was that sometimes the movies he announced weren't "scary" movies, much to his chagrin. One time, the movie he was going to show, which he didn't know about until he pulled a slip of paper from his pocket, was The Odd Couple , almost sending him into a rage!

Okay, kids, it's me, Count Floyd. And this thread has gotten a little off track, talking about this Jim Carrey fellow. Though I've got to admit, heh heh, he is pretty scaaaarrrrrey!

But let's get back to what really counts. And that's me, Count Floyd. Or those other horror movie hosts. Okay, now, everybody, let's have a good Transylvanian howl

Carrey was in another Canadian sketch show at the time of SCTV called THE ALL NIGHT SHOW. I don't remember it ever being shown in the U.S..

His first break down here was in a Jay Tarses sitcom, THE DUCK FACTORY, where he was the boring new guy, think Gary Sandy in WKRP, while everyone else was crazy.

misswonderly, I bow to the brilliance of Canadian comics, with the exception of Carrey, of course, the man's an overpaid hack.

I'm not going to touch that one about Jim Carrey... But he was never a member of the SCTV cast.
All the greats listed below in my last post were... At least I don't think Carrey was ever on SCTV??
He may have done a bit part when he was starting out??? I really don't know...

This is kinda off-topic for TCM, to say the least, but I think the only Americans in the cast were Joe Flaherty and Andrea Martin.
Anyway, Eugene Levy, who played Bruno in a video clip I posted below in another post, went on to become known to Americans for playing the father in the "American Pie" movies...
Another cast member, Harold Ramis, has had a big career in Hollywood.
As had the late John Candy. Catherine O'Hara went on to star in many Hollywood films, "Beetlejuice" being just one of many. Andrea Martin went on to Hollywood films and to do stage work on Broadway... Rick Moranis went Hollywood too and was in many films. As did Martin Short.

And, since Miss W. didn't do it, I will mention that Eugene Levy is a Canadian (isn't he?)

Eugene Levy has gone on to do some really good dramatic roles...a couple of years ago he was in the Universal release TAKING WOODSTOCK , where he portrayed Max Yasgur, whose farm was rented out for the Woodstock festival. Eugene is wonderful in the film...quite different from his comedic and American Pie roles.
