i don't see why not...is that a Woody Allen film? I love his movies. As for The Awful Truth, know that I look at it I agree with you...it should be something like #4 or #5

Here's my Top Ten Favorites list of movies that came out in that oh-so-famous year of 1939:

1. Midnight - Claudette Colbert & Don Ameche
2. It's a Wonderful World - Claudette Colbert & James Stewart
3. Bachelor Mother - Ginger Rogers & David Niven
4. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - James Stewart & Jean Arthur
5. Everything Happens At Night - Ray Milland, Robert Cummings, and Sonja Henie
6. Drums Along the Mohawk - Claudette Colbert & Henry Fonda
7. Only Angels Have Wings - Cary Grant & Jean Arthur
8. Gunga Din - Cary Grant & Sam Jaffe
9. Zaza - Claudette Colbert & Herbert Marshall
10. The Wizard of Oz - Judy Garland, Frank Morgan ... but Scarecrow most of all! ;)

Let's see now ... Come to think of it, there was one other movie I could have put on the list ... but, frankly, I just don't give a--

Fiddle-dee-dee.

Did they ever make a movie together?

The answer is, strangely, not really.

The closest those two greats came to doing a movie together was in "Without Reservations" (1946). In that film, Claudette plays an author who's bestselling novel is being adapted into a Hollywood movie. At the beginning of the film, Cary Grant is said to be considered for the role of her heroic leading man. Claudette, however, insists that the part should be played by an unknown for it to be truly effective.

In short order, on the train she meets a soldier (played by John Wayne) who she thinks is the spitting image of her character. After some budding relationship troubles between the two (naturally), and in order to make him jealous, Claudette parties it up on the Hollywood scene and goes dancing with ... Cary Grant, played by Cary Grant! (You were expecting, maybe, Tony Curtis?? ;) )

The two exchange a few lines of dialogue in that scene but that's it. It's just a taste of a chemistry-rich pairing that makes you wish they had done at least one entire film together. Still, one should be thankful to get this one cool moment of cinematic history. B-)

If the list was Top 20, DI would definitely be there. Maybe even #11. Hard for me to pick only 10 favorites! Like, I wanted to include Clash by Night, too...

Yes, I remember DI was your #2, but what's your number 1? Now I get the chance to ask you. :)

I, MissW, was the first person on this thread to mention Double Indemnity, that's where I fit in.
And I'm surprised and shocked, shocked, that you, a dedicated film noir fan, had nary a peep to say about my carefully composed list.
I take a simple balsamic vinegrette for my dressing.

Big salad? I'm referring to Eugenia's preferences. Where do you fit in?
