For my next suggested post ( I'm getting frustrated at my lack of success in doing it), in honor of Drew Barrymore, will someone please post "Valley Girl", by Frank and Moon Zappa.

Both decades ushered in radically different musical styles. In the 80s you had New Wave, and then in the 90s you had grunge bands like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, etc. I like a lot more 80s music than 90s music, but then again, sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to Depeche Mode and other days I want to listen to Nirvana. :) I don't really know what's going on in today's music; I guess I should.

I will say that the alternative from the '80s (new wave) was much, much better than the alternative from the '90s.

I'm not sure how many times I've floated on this dirge-ish exposition, but here's a great capture of its performance:

(I think REM actually formed in the late 80s, but their hey day was definitely 90s.)

FYI, REM formed in the early 80s and their first EP was Chronic Town. Murmur, my favorite album from them, was from the early 80s ("Radio Free Europe" is one of their best songs, imo). They had a huge indie following for years, but after they signed with Warner Brothers they really broke into the mainstream.

(Not pickin' on ya, misswonderly, I just love this band and am happy for a chance to talk about their early music. After 1989's Green, for me, I enjoyed them a lot less and eventually stopped listening to their new stuff...)

The '90s is a decade from which I like a lot of stuff, but know very little of it.

Well, I will post some REM and some Radiohead in the near future. Should be easy, I love 'em both.
But for some reason, today I've just got to post Light Flight. in a live performance from the supurb folk/rock ensemble "Pentangle". Frig whatever decade they recorded in, these guys are timeless.
Part folk, part rock, part classical, part jazz.
These guys were amazing; outstandingly talented musicians. I know I'm waxing a little hyperbolic here, but "Pentangle" deserves it. This is an exciting, urgent-sounding track, with a very complicated time signature and Jacqui McShee's fine voice soaring over it all like another instrument. Lots to listen to here.

Ha ha! Being an old fart myself, I also prefer the music of the 60s & 70s. But just sayin there was some great music in the 90s as well (and after), as I'm sure y'all know.

Misswonderly, I like REM & Radiohead also. Casablanca, I've never heard Linkin Park. But I've heard OF them. Can you post your fav of theirs? Never heard of All Time Low.

BigFaceSmallRazor wrote: There's always songs on here from the 60s & 70s. Some 80's.

That's because some of us are old fartz. We long to replay our youth and inexperience.

But I like Linkin Park (when I am in a good mood) and All Time Low, for starters.
