This is a great thread. I'm not sure if these films are too "out there", but if there were an Australian Essential Film category, I'd love to see The Last Wave, 1977 and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, 1994 featured.

Somedays I am the Cary Grant from Arsenic And Old Lace , somedays I am the Cary Grant from Father Goose . Somedays I just get confused :)

I act just like Cary Grant does in the movie Notorious. Are you sure that is what you are looking for? How about Suspicion?

Doing one's first post in the "Essentials" forum is a beginner's mistake.

sultrysoul, you must be disappointed that your thoughtful and heartfelt post has not so far engendered any responses. I can't imagine why not, unless others were the same as me: I simply did not see your thread until today.

Hope you're still there ( that is, in TCM website -land.)

Although I have not read much science fiction myself, I am aware of the many fine sci fi writers there are as a result of my having worked for years in a book store (one has to be at least moderately familiar with the writers of all different genres when working with books is one's job.)
Laurel Hamilton and Ursual Leguin come to mind, but there are so many. I don't know if any of their books have been made into movies. Perhaps you are aware of some?

Yes, the elegant clothes, the world of another, in some ways better time, and those fedora hats all men wore - TCM is a nice place to go to.

HOSTS on THE ESSENTIALS W/RO

Today, I decided to join a group that I feel reflects my love ....love of the old movies w/furs, hats, ladies with guts, men w/manners.... and (laughingly) I find arguments on the new hosts on The Essentials w/RO. First, I'd like to say, that I have been surprised by some of the hosts, such as Rose McGovern (of TV show "Charmed") --- who showed her acting chops in a movie that I can unfortunately not remember the title of.... BUT after seeing that one short clip of her acting in the movie I'm trying to think of...My OPINION OF HER - changed!!!! Alex Baldwin is (right or wrong) been in the press and his divorce not pretty.... but also probably not showing the two sides of it. RO is very skilled at handling people w/dignity, integrity, and humor... and definitely intelligence. HE will not give way to what he feels is missing or was taken away by a co-hosts comments. Yet, he allows FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION, which is certainly why I turn to TCM so often... because there was an integrity in so many many movies made bad then, and lacking in the majority of films made today. There is very little science fiction - both TCM and today's movie-making that I can stomach. As I research, for my hobby, sci fi.... and learn different viewpoints of the cosmos and outer intelligence, I find that turning to sci fi books, most good ones written by women writing (so they can get published) under pseudonames of men. But, to the point, I'm interested in all who are co-hosting and what they have to say...from their perspective and listening to RO add, balance, disagree, etc. as he feels he needs to.

I really hope that I didn't get into yet another forum where all there is - is anger! How about someone coming up with some good suggestions for TCM movies that would be good for some of the dissenting, angry (albeit their love shows for the movies) popcorn crunchers who may be need to watch some anger put to good use, and ENJOY AND EMBRACE HOW UNIQUE WE ALL ARE! I did not join TCM to be "better than" anyone else...but rather, I'd LOVE to immerse myself in what your intelligent comments have to say about some of these movies.

Hope I didn't get political here... or cross any conduct lines?!!! ;) I just want back those days of hats, hose, and .... yes, vintage furs and men who wear suits and look and act like Cary Grant.
