An author known for children's stories wrote a play in the early 1900's. It went through 3 revivals including one in the late 80s. It was a Hollywood musical 30 yrs after the original and given a different title. It starred a well-loved actress as the skipper aboard. What play & the movie title ??

...but her stage career dwarfed her film career. OK, how about Josephine Hull? Thread is open.

I'll pass, and open the thread.

BTW, Noel Coward is credited by IMDb with 17 Acting credits (as compared with 127 Writing credits). I checked that source becaused I did remember Our Man in Havana, and the list reminded me of his participation in Boom!

Don't laugh me off the stage, but did Noel Coward actually appear on film? If not, I'll guess Noel Coward.

That's two. Think actresses for the others.

Hints wouldn't be applicable. Either you know it or you don't, and I'm sure some of you can list 5 of them.

Name at least 5 giants of the Broadway stage-post 1920 (non-musical) that virtually never appeared in films.

This has been hanging around for a week or more. I'll open the thread. It was A Shot in the Dark reworked to fit Inspector Clouseau who had been Walter Matthau as Benjamin Beaurevers in the '62 play.

Thanks for sharing. It looked like several of the songs never made it to Hollywood...a shame.

This broadway play opened on Broadway in the early 60s. Its supporting star won a Tony for the performance. When it got to Hollywood, the screenplay was reworked into a film that was recast with all new stars. Main character was given a "title" to fit into a series of films. New names to the rest of the cast as well. Name the title and the 2 main stars.
