Don't forget the joys of It's A Wonderful Life with commercials, thanks to NBC.

Well Floyd, all I can tell ya here is that I always thought it was a shame that once NBC and then CBS attained the rights to show Gone with the Wind back in the '70s, that the dunderheads in charge at those networks at that time placed a commercial right between the 0:36 second mark and the 0:37 mark in the following scene...

(...yep, I always thought some people watching that movie for the first time might not have remembered why Scarlett seems to wake up in bed with a big ol' smile on her face at the 0:37 mark here after maybe just getting done watching a "Ring Around the Collar" Wisk commercial at the time!) ;)

There is absolutely no obligation for any station to broadcast any movie in its entirety. Editing is commonplace.

I would imagine that is up to the discretion of the station broadcasting the movie. If they want to show the film in a certain time limit or add a few extra commercial spots they can trim some time from the movie. Some of the others who post here can answer this; Does the broadcasting station have any obligation to show a film in its entirety, or can they do a little "editing" here and there?

It is hilarious that you ask this question here... for obvious reasons.

I have always wondered if the stations do a clean cut to a commercial so we do not lose any of the film.
I don't remember ever noticing if the film returns to the exact spot where it was interrupted before the commercial. Would anyone know how the films are edited for commercials? Are the films left intact? I seriously doubt it.
