I signed it too, Lori. I had opportunity to sign a lot of petitions, and most I was very keen to support, so thanks for the link.
One other suggestion, as it could help. One of my facebook friends has a pretty popular movies blog, I think I will see if he can give it a little PR too. There are blogs out there that may help you connect more people. Give 'em a try..

I signed the petition, natch! Hope it works! Would love to see a quality set of pressed discs with some extras as well, even though I realize studios do those less with the classic films these days. Let's hope we see a nice box set soon!

Great suggestion, CagneyFan1 .Sean Penn has the same rebellious/good guy, energy simmering underneath persona that Garfield had. He might be a little old to play J.G. as a young man, but that's a quibble.
Lori, I signed your petition. Hope "they" heed it.

signed. Garfield's films more readily accessible is a worthy aspiration. Has there been discussion of who should be cast as Garfield in a biopic about him? I could see Sean Penn in this. IMHO Penn's got Garfield-esque scrumptious repressed energy packed into a tidy frame.

Yeah willbefree25 I gather that the bear does more than talk!
I would guess that Garfield would have been fine with Wahlberg. From all my reading and research I have done on him, on word always comes up when people were asked to describe him. Sweet, he was such a sweet guy! But if he was pushed or really made he wouldn't back down at all.
Like when he told the FBI to (starts with a F and ends with a K) you, when they asked him to basically "rat" on his wife. He supposedly told the same thing to a producer of Body and Soul, when the man said "why don't you use a white actor instead of Canada Lee?" Lee will cause a lot of complaints with the Southern states. Garfield supposedly told the producer the same thing he told the FBI agent.
Like I have always said, John Garfield had a lot of moxie for a little guy!
Here is the link again for the petition to get WB/TCM to produce a box-set of his films. In case anyone reads this post and needs it. I will not do another thread on this subject. I don't want to get into trouble like johnbabe did with the Garbo threads.

Well, Ted does more than 'talk', but who knows, maybe John would have been more open-minded about being associated with Mark.
Sorry, just me.

Hey willbefree25. Yes I have seen the promo. It so quick but it sounds like the directors says something like, "Like Garfield and Cagney there is an honesty to Mark's acting."
There is an interview on youtube where Kim Morgan interviews Julie Garfield after a showing of "He Ran All The Way." Any way, Ms. Morgan mentions that Mark Wahlberg is a big fan of John Garfield and he would be great in playing Garfield in a movie about John Garfield's life. Ms.Garfield agreed, but she mentioned that Johnny Depp would be another good choice to play her father, and it sounded like she would prefer Depp.
Wahlberg is for sure a good actor, so I am not sure what that youtube clip you posted is all about. It does look kind of like a silly movie, but it might make movie you never know.
Maybe Mark needed to pay the bills like the rest of us, so that is why he made this movie with the talking teddy bear.
Thanks
Lori

Lori, an aside. TCM is pushing a show with a director and Mark Wahlberg, and using the comparison of Wahlberg to Garfield. Have you seen it?
Now, I like Wahlberg and his movies and his acting and his television shows, but Garfield? Not even close. TCM should vett their comparisons a little more closely before they make them.
Why? Here's why:

Thanks TomJH for signing the petition, and for your words. I agree with you of course. I just have to try because I still find it unbelievable that he has no box-set of his films. It almost as if he is blacklisted from having a box-set of his films.
So, all I can do is promote this petition as much as I can, and then wait for the fates. The petition can stay active on the site till 10/24/12. Then no matter how many signatures there are on the petition, it and a letter will have to go out to the "powers that be."
His daughter has already added her name to the petition, and some of the comments people have written are very moving.
If Mr.Garfield is "up there" aware of this petition, that would be wonderful. And you are right, he probably would say something like, "Sure, sure Lori you tried kid, and I appreciate it."
But, from all my readings and learning what at a "regular and sweet guy" he was I am "sure" he would say them same to all of you who added your name to this petition!
Thanks again.
Lori

Signed it, Lori. Best of luck on this one because Garfield deserves to be remembered.
I don't mean to sound a negative note but I have to wonder how eager the Warners bean counters will be to pursue a boxset on a forgotten star. Their primary concern, of course, is the bottom line, not correcting an historical injustice. Still, if enough people sign this petition it could make a difference.
If that film on Garfield's life ever became a reality you wouldn't have to create this petition. The boxset would be out there before the film's release.
Lori, you can never tell yourself you didn't try. Somewhere, if he's capable of observing this I'm sure Julie Garfield might be saying, "Sure, sure, it's the fates. Give me a little fame and then take it away. But thanks for trying, Lori. You're not a bad kid. I appreciate it."

Ah, willbefree25, what a great wish. Yes, I am pretty sure which comment is yours on the petition. Great comment really.
Thank you for adding your name to the petition. And thank you to all the rest of you who have done the same or will do the same.
