There is no official policy on the number of threads an individual can create. Creating two or more threads with the same wording in one or more forums is considered spamming and the threads would be deleted and the poster banned. There are no restrictions on users who have only a single topic/person/focus they're interested in as long as they follow the conduct guidelines.
No one is required to read posts or threads started by any individual user. If the community has no interest in discussing Garbo, why are there 30+ replies to the thread? I'm sure not one of you would appreciate so many off-topic posters invading a discussion you wanted to start.
This thread is closed.

Michael,
No. Johnbabe's threads about Garbo would be less of a problem if there were less of johnbabe's threads about Garbo. As you can see from my post, a TCMWebAdmin told him to stop. Shouldn't that apply, even with a different webadmin?

Johnbabe threads about Garbo would be far less of a problem if those of you who know this is a problem would stop posting in the threads johnbabe creates. Capiche?

I know somewhere around here there's a super long thread on Barbara Stanwick but, its just ONE THREAD. That's the way it should be.
I guess he's upset it isn't on the front page every single day and that there are other actors who were good and worthy of discussion.

1. There's a GG thread started by princessananka....and he replied in THAT one.
2. He is obviously a troll....or at least just a troublemaker.
3. This seems to have gone far enough, IMHO. Time the admins ban him from the site.

johnbabe, why don't you say anything about why you create so many, many threads about GG even though you were told by the TCMWebAdmin not to? And here is the thread where the TCMWebAdmin said for you to stop.
http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8414855
Maybe you need to see this again...this is from that thread you started called, of course, "Garbo":

i would like to know, that as a new fan of GG, why her films are always the same on TCM and when they are shown, they are shown at 6 AM like Camille today...many of us out there are new to TCM because our cable companies did not have it on their lists (like Optimum on Long Island) they only have TCM in the last 2 years, i have had it for 5 years because i moved to Comcast area and they have TCM, some of the persons on the threads get rather touchy - i am glad that they have had the privilege of TCM for 17 years and maybe they are tired of the real classic films, but that doe not help the new audience...i happen to love TCM and i think that you are absolutely fascinating, but please keep the older classics upfront, and why is TCM ignoring Garbo's birthday on September 18th....thank you.
I replied:
johnbabe, you are not a new fan of Garbo. You have been creating many threads about her since at least 2007. I haven't done a count for the years 2007-2009, but I did do a count for 2010 and this is the 28th thread you've created just this year regarding Garbo!!! WHY -- please tell us why! -- you can't just create 1 thread on GG and add to just that one, instead of creating several new GG threads each week???
The very next post was:

Hello
This thread is now being locked. We currently have multiple threads on Greta Garbo. While we appreciate your love for Greta Garbo, we need to cut back on the amount of threads on this topic.
Thank youPete

...and you, of course, are Mr. Know-It-All-About-Garbo?
Try giving some PROOF here of what you babble on about, like an actual LIST of those presumed book titles, instead of generalizations.
Also, stop repeating yourself about GG in each of these threads ("her work for the Allies", etc.) That just becomes naggingly repetitive.

you are not up on current books, my friend, there has been much news in recent months, etc., of Garbo's work during WW2 for the Allies especially the Brits - and of her "absence" from MGM for about 8 months in 1926-27- new books are coming out all the time about Garbo - you just do not know where to find them, also, a great book on her fashion influence came out last year and there are at least 4 or 5 books out this year or coming out - so i do not think she is boring and also, friend, most of the stars on TCM are all dead too does that make them all boring??????????????????????????????????????????

It would be more interesting with the Wayan Bros.

I guess I am one who is willing to cut johnbabe a little slack here. Actually if he had started just one "Garbo" thread awhile back and then just kept posting on that one thread he may have generated some kind of discussion with other "Garbo" fans. At least the "Garbo" thread would have a lot of pages and would look impressive

Funny that you say that, since logically you have a very valid point, but for some reason many of them don't 'hold up' as well as a movie made in the 30s - 50s that was set in those times.
I guess it is just my preference, or maybe as Hibi says the sheer number Garbo was in. i.e. too many becomes too much.

You could make an argument that period piece films should hold up better than films set in the '30s.

No, I dont think most of her films hold up well today. It's not entirely her fault as she got typecast in the Classics 101 period piece rut and rarely branched out of that (at least in talkies).

I think a critical thread on Garbo would be interesting. For example do her movies 'hold up' today? Many are period films and like the films Greer Garson made I don't think period film hold up as well as other types of movies.
It would also be interesting to compare Garbo's best work with that of stars like Davis and Stanwyck. Ok, Garbo has Camille but does she really have the type of movies 'creed' that other actresses have or is she more of an icon (where she is more known for factors beyond the actual movies she made).
Many topics we could discuss related to Garbo but we don't need another Garbo thread to do that.
Hey, after seeing Merle Oberon last night in Night Song, I can understand where johnbabe is coming from! Merle is my number one now (well until later!).

And another thing, why did johnbabe put it under "Hot Topics"? GG's been dead for many decades, there is nothing new about her coming out, etc, and this thread is old news. Maybe jb knew it would become a hot topic because of how sick we are of it.
Well that's just it, now isn't it?
That is one of the M.O.s of a troll. They want to get a response out of you and here again he has succeeded. As you indicated earlier this is quite possibly his goal. And according to the amount of threads he has posted, he has pretty much succeeded. Would you not agree?
This is one of the reasons why I will not respond to him. Of course having just written this, I am responding to him by posting in this thread he has created.

Hibi,
I did a count once and found that in a six month period, johnbabe had created (not just posted in, but actually created) more than 20 different threads about GG. In just six months!!! The TCM WebAdmin at the time told johnbabe to keep it to one thread. You can see how johnbabe listens. Sometimes, I feel he/she is a troll, doing this to annoy people. Right up there with the Osmond thread maker. (Not convinced the creator of that and johnbabe are not the same.)

Dougie, not ALL of John's threads are in Hot Topics....they're, unfortunately, everywhere.
IMHO, it's board abuse and has been reported...all they need to do is have a look at the Search link I posted and they'll have a clear idea of what is going on here.

john, the sad fact is that your relentless posting about Garbo, sometimes simultaneously in different forums, is starting to make me like Garbo LESS, because I'm starting to associate her with your mania to promote her. I'm sure that's not your intention, so rather than generalized gushing, maybe you should lead with a specific talking point. The feeling I get is that you don't really want dialogue; you just want to vent, because you often disappear after the original post. If that's not true, then stick around and find ways to keep a real discussion going. And Films And Filmakers or Your Favorites would probably be be the best place to do it. By starting similar, repeat threads in Hot Topics, you're just going to make YOURSELF the hot topic and that doesn't serve anyone, particularly not Garbo.
