Well we have different taste. Like I said I think both I and II are very good movies, but just not some of the greatest ever made. Hey, I don't think GWTW is one of the greatest movies ever made either because of the soap opera aspect of the movie.

I just happen to enjoy movies from the 30s - 50s more.

The part that I personally hated was the silly plot of Godfather III. It centered on one of Sonny's bastard brats. The central character SHOULD have been Michael Rizzi. (Connie's youngest, who you witnessed being baptized in the original) That fault in the script was so bad . . . I could have written a better screenplay myself!

Well, yeah, TCMfan23, what gives?

OUATIA? Seriously? Garbage.

Mean Streets was just on some pay channel, over and over and over. Contrary to memory, it ain't all that good.

But really, Godfather is now, ahem, a +classic+? Really?

Lucy, you got some splainin' to do. Or not, I don't really give a fig. It's your mind, you want to change it, no worries.

"Aren't you the same guy who said on another thread..." FCD

They sure are, Fred.

There seems to be a major outbreak of duplicitousness around here lately.

I am also sure some of the most troublesome former members have returned under new names. That's why I understand when certain members may react "unkindly" toward some new arrivals. It doesn't make it right - but I understand why.

I know I'm in the minority on this issue, but I don't feel Godfather III sucks like most everyone else does. While not as good as the first two { how could it be? }it does have an interesting story line of Michael trying to redeem himself from his past sins. In fact, I believe Coppola wanted to name the film The Redeption Of Michael Corleone. It has good perfs especially from Andy Garcia and Mr. Al Pacino. And that ending is absolutely gut wrenching. The worst thing that happens to Michael is that harm would come to one of his children and it did. There is no redemption for our sins, Coppola seems to be saying. I say watch it again with an open mind and try { not easy } to compare with the other two and take it on it's own terms. And I would LOVE TCM to be able to show all three films tho it sounds like it may not happen this century. Letterboxed, un-cut and un-edited is the only way any film should be presented and that's one reason I thank God there is TCM every flippin' day! Long live Turner Classic Movies!!!!!

Yeah, I think Uncle Bob, the Mankman and Luca Brasi should make a
trip over to AMC and make 'em a offer they can't refuse. If they still don't
want to play ball, leave a squirrel's tail in Bob Dorian's bed. That should
do the trick.

Sergio Leone was approached to direct the film before Coppola and turned
it down because he wanted to work on his own gangster project, which be-
came Once Upon a Time in America.

I like both of the first two Godfathers about equally, maybe giving II a slight
edge. I remember seeing III when it came out. I'd like to see it again just to
see if it is really as bad as I remember it.

The name is Corleone, Vito Corleone.

Aren't you the same guy who said on another thread:

"for the past couple of months , i've noticed tcm is showing more and more films made in the 70s and 80s.

i like films made in the 70s and 80s , but i think tcm should only show Old Hollywood films (30's through 60's)."

jamesjazzguitar ,

It's the opposite for me.

Godfather 1 is slightly better than Godfather 2. But Godfather 2 is good too because it has more story and good acting. Both films are good. They are the greatest movies ever made. Forget about garbage like Avatar and the Dark Stupid Knight ! Harry Potter bores me to death.

Godfather is up there with Ben-Hur , Ten Commandments , and Gone With the Wind (BEAUTIFUL MOVIE !).

These movies have been available on DVD for years. For films you really like, you can get them on DVD. You can buy a DVD player for $35 at WalMart.

In May , TCM is showing Dog Day Afternoon with Al Pacino and that guy who played Fredo in the Godfather movies.

That guy is the late, great John Cazale. There's a terrific HBO documentary about him, I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale.

The uncut version of Once Upon a Time in America has long been available.

And TCM can't show The Godfather or The Godfather II until the exclusive AMC rental contract runs out in 2020 (providing they don't renew it again).

TCM should show Once Upon A Time In America. The uncut version. The version Sergio Leone wanted us to see. The film watch butchered because it ran around 3 hours. It stars Robert Deniro , James Woods and a young Jennifer Connelly.

I have never seen Mean Streets (a Scorsese picture). NEVER ! it's never on TV. And there are no video stores anymore. It's Deniro's earliest film roles. A year before Godfather 2.

In May , TCM is showing Dog Day Afternoon with Al Pacino and that guy who played Fredo in the Godfather movies. I'm happy TCM is showing it. It's not on TV that often and it's one of my favorite films of the 70s.

Well I think The Godfather II is better than The Godfather and while I feel both a very good movies I don't think they are in the top 25 of greatest movies of all time. Most of the time when I mention to someone I love old movie, they will mention The Godfather. To them this is an old movie and they are surprised I don't think it is one of the best of all time.

Sadly the movies I mention are rarely even known to these people.

i'll make them a offer they can't refuse.

if not the saga , show the first two serpately. TCM showed them a few years ago.

I don't own the dvd/ blu-ray editions. I own the VHS tapes in the gold boxes.

I taped the saga off of AMC back in February. IT WASN'T EASY ! it took me 3 days to tape the damned thing ! stressful. 10 hour video tapes are hard to find these days. I had to settle for one 8 hour and one 6 hour.

After watching the saga version , i decided two seperate mvies were better. the saga runs too damn long ( 8 hrs. back in '77. 2012 , it runs 10 hrs.). It's like the GREED of Gangster films. btw , i'm still waiting for Greed to come out on DVD. Its been nearly 6 years and still no word.

LEAVE THE TCM; TAKE THE BLU-RAY

A few words of advice: buy yourself the Blu-ray of the GODFATHER films (you can use the disc of Part III as a coaster or for skeet-shooting. Besides, the Blu-ray is fully restored to look as good as parts I and II looked theatrically; the TV transfers aren't), and you'll never have to go Coreleone-less again.
