Last cruise

TCM just announced this will be the last cruise! This is terrible! We so looked forward to this. Maybe if enough people complain, they will have a change of heart.

They sent out an email. My husband got it, but I didn't.

It's been a slow seller, probably because of the price increase. I think they could have sold out the larger ship if it were only a 5 day cruise (20%-ish cheaper). I'm sad that it's the last. The cruise has been my anticipated vacation for the last few years.

I agree terrible decision.  This was one of two (along with the TCM Film Festival) events that was for the fans of the network.  To eliminate this without a clear explanation is weak.  I would like to know the factors that contributed to this being the final cruise.

I've been out of town & I just looked at my email last night. I have to say I was disappointed as well. My SO pointed out that that may have had a difficult time getting "the talent" to go on a week long cruise as well as getting people that the cruisers want to see. They really should have kept it at four or five nights.

My wife and I were also upset and depressed by this news.  Hopefully on the cruise they'll do a survey on who would go on another cruise and reinstate the cruise.  We always felt that the cruise was more for those on the East Coast while the festival was more for those on the West Coast.  This makes it harder for us on the East Coast to get to any TCM event.

CRUISE' truly is sad news. I have been on all the cruises with my mother and we too, anxiously wait for the cruise every year. This cruise is significantly more expensive and I did think twice before booking.

The Celebrity cruise line was better than Disney, but I understand the (Disney) venues are more accommodating for the films and events. Celebrity offered more adult social OPEN lounges (many lounges on Disney are closed during the cruise)... cocktail lounges are profitable as are casinos. The opportunity to see the movies on the big screen are priceless.

I take offense to upgrading for perks. Devoted TCM cruisers should be acknowledged without spending even more money.

TCM has been changing the last few years, mostly favorable, except for the limited presence of Robert Osborne. I have not even seen Mr. Osborne's name listed! Eddie Muller can certainly talk about film noir for a week - his events are standing room only!

I do hope the Cruise continues, it is a unique opportunity to live Hollywood with fellow film buffs. Keep sailing!

This is very sad news.  I was hoping to one day be able to do one of these cruises.  Unfortunately, as of yet, I have not been able to either afford it or the dates didn't suit my work schedule.

Now to find out that I will never have the chance is sad.  :(

The first official statement from TCM regarding why the decision was made came today on Facebook. In response to a viewer's query regarding the discontinuation, TCM's social media team responded:

"We've heard from a lot of classic film fans and they've asked that we offer more local events throughout the year. To honor that request, we're shifting our time and energy to those events. We hope you can attend some of those!"

So, I'm guessing that this decision was made on the basis of surveys conducted of TCM Inner Circle and TCM Backlot members. It sounds like we can expect to hear more details on what types of events might be coming down the pike sometime in 2017. I've heard some scuttlebutt that TCM is looking into the possibility of doing a film festival on the east coast sometime in the next couple of years, so we'll see what happens.

I sincerely hope they change their minds since my wife and friends were absolutely thrilled with the accommodations and the fun events when they attended. It was all first class and well worth the money.

I agree. This past cruise was top notch. My SO had never been on one and he had a great time and he's not even as big a fan as I am.
