Trump held government workers hostage for a month — and walked away with nothing

Analysis: The self-described deal-maker president gave up the ransom and the hostage for... a conference committee.

"......The deal he cut boils down to this: He gave up the $5.7 billion wall-money ransom he'd sought and the hostage he'd taken — his own government's operations — in exchange for Democrats agreeing to participate in a "conference committee," which is the legislative equivalent of a firing squad for his wall.

He did gain one more thing he probably didn't want — a lesson in messing with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. She stared him down over the border wall, the five-week partial government shutdown and the question of who decides whether and when he can deliver a State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.....

.... Pelosi's appointees can unilaterally block anything that funds a wall. So, the greatest likelihood is that the conference committee will either fail to come to an agreement, or will produce legislation that funds the Homeland Security Department but prohibits the money from being used for a wall. ......

....He got Congress to agree to go to conference on the Homeland spending bill, he might have resurrected his State of the Union speech and he stopped any further self-inflicted pain from a government shutdown that he could have ended in the same fashion at any time in the last five weeks.

His defeat was profound."

Not only did Trump alienate moderates with a shutdown, he upset his core 35 percent by caving - and, most significantly for 2020, did it all as Democrats held together on a major issue fight.

Now, Trump will face hours of negative coverage on cable news, including Fox.

BUT - he did manage to get coverage off Stone for at least awhile.

'I'm the king of Palm Beach.' Inside Donald Trump's debauched Mar-a-Lago where guests skinny dipped and had sex on the grounds, a prized chef beloved by Celine Dion was fired over a Caesar salad and Trump used Princess Diana to make himself a celebrity

How Donald Trump used Mar-a-Lago to barge into the world of celebrities

Donald Trump used his Mar-a-Lago palace to gain access into the world of celebrities, and in turn, make himself one, writes Laurence Leamer in his new book Mar-A-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump's Presidential Palace. In 1982, the businessman visited the mansion that had the interior that had 'the feel and look of Louis XIV'. He thought this monument might 'bring him a certain cachet in a world he wasn't a part of - and he just had to have it'. Sure enough, celebrities descended upon Mar-a-Lago - from movie stars to musical artists, Patriots football coach Bill Belichick, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, John F. Kennedy Jr and Sean Puffy Combs. Trump even lied and said Princess Diana was a member, hoping to get new memberships from people looking to rub shoulders with stars. Owning the celebrity jaunt allowed Trump to skip out on dull and formal charity balls hosted by the Palm Beach old-moneyed society, who he regarded as 'extremely unattractive people'.

The king of debauchery: grab them by the***** meow.

The "Art of the Deal" was a phrase that came out of my mouth 30 years ago as a way for Trump to write an autobiography he didn't have. It was a fake marketing idea, not a reality. I regret it every day of my life. Yesterday he put a final nail in the fantasy I helped to create.

This is such a humiliating end for Trump's gambit. There's nothing here that was not on the table 35 days ago. Huge defeat. And once the government reopens, he has literally no leverage to try this again.

This morning’s widely-circulated characterization of Roger Stone as a Nixon campaign aide or adviser is a gross misstatement. Mr. Stone was 16 years old during the Nixon presidential campaign of 1968 and 20 years old during the reelection campaign of 1972.

Mr. Stone, during his time as a student at George Washington University, was a junior scheduler on the Nixon reelection committee. Mr. Stone was not a campaign aide or adviser. Nowhere in the Presidential Daily Diaries from 1972 to 1974 does the name "Roger Stone" appear.

Replying to @realDonaldTrump

Nice of you to suddenly fire dozens of undocumented workers who have spent years cleaning and cooking at your resorts. Surprised you waited until two years into your anti-immigrant presidency, though.

Some of the fired employees are headed to Congress to testify about their employment,  which could constitute a federal crime.

One particular man who was interviewed on NBC Nightly News said he had worked for trump in Westchester for 14 years. And during that, Over a decade , he was fairly certain that not just the staff there --

but also Trump himself, whom he had spoken with a number of times over the years --

were aware of his status and those of other illegal workers.

The man also said that he was never questioned closely or challenged about the  fake papers he turned in when he started working for Trump 14 years ago.

This man and the other illegal workers never received benefits and believed that they their status was ignored because trump wanted cheap help.

How does Da Nang Dick (Blumenthal) serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee when he defrauded the American people about his so called War Hero status in Vietnam, only to later admit, with tears pouring down his face, that he was never in Vietnam. An embarrassment to our Country!

If this trump guy had any sense--

like hopefully the sense he was born with --

this is a subject that he would stay away from like the plague.

Every time he mentions Vietnam he reminds us all how he was a Draft Dodger who cheated on his medical report to avoid military service.

It's hard to believe that "Old  Bone Spurs" is so stupid to keep on bringing the subject up.

Basically it hurts him more than Blumenthal.
