Most "Adorably Cute" Actresses?

32 posts in this topic

Who is the most adorably cute actress?  (from the '30s)

Not glamorous but really girl next door incredibly insufferably cute!

Sylvia Sidney?

Janet Gaynor?

Simone Simon?

Marian Marsh?

Others?

I am going to vote for Janet Gaynor...though I am sure there are many others.

Aforementioned Marian Marsh has my vote ... for now. (Don't worry, Marian, you're gonna be hard to beat.)

Just the 30s, right?

When I was still not quite a teenager yet in 1954, I saw SUSAN SLEPT HERE.  I had a crush on an actress I had never seen before named Debbie Reynolds. I started to watch all the movies Debbie Reynolds starred in including of course TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR. As I got older I became more attracted to more ,shall we say, voluptuous actresses.  Rita Hayworth in YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER, COVER GIRL and  GILDA were at the top of the list.

Shirley Temple, Drew Barrymore and Virginia Lee Corbin (silent era)

Television Susan Olsen (Brady Bunch) but she grew out of it quickly)

Couple of foreign actresses considered the cutest.

Korean, Kim Yoo Bin.

I agree that Janet Gaynor was the cutest adult actress in those days.  Shirley Temple was very cute, but another cute child was Dorothy Ann Seese, who played little Phronsie in the "Five Little Peppers" movie series.

You folks are good!  I should have qualified even further:

Adult female actress from the '30's.

By the time Shirley Temple was a young adult, she was still adorably cute!

I would add JOAN BLONDELL to the list.  As far as the '30's go.  and adult age too.

For KIDS, and over the decades, add  MARGARET O'BRIEN,  NATALE WOOD and DARLA HOOD..  HALEY MILLS too.

Hmm  No Maureen O'Sullivan yet.  Definitely agree on Janet Gaynor, in Sunnyside Up.

Una Merkel was adorable, and I loved her quirky comedy that went with it like in "42nd st", "Born to dance", and "Broadway melody 36".

Ruby Keeler was one of the loveliest and most adorable 1930s women of all. Loved her in all her Busby Berkeley and post Busby Berkeley films. Ruby was wonderful in "Dames" (particularly in "I only have eyes for you"), "Footlight parade" (particularly in "By a waterfall"), "42nd st" (particularly in title number), "Flirtation walk" (very nice in title number and "Mr. and Mrs. is the name"), "Coleen" (very nice in "I don't have to dream again" and "You gotta know how to dance"), "Get into your dance" (very nice with hubby Jolson in "Quarter to nine"), and others. Ruby also made that dazzling comeback 30 years later in "No, no Nanette".

I also loved the sweet Gloria Stewart, who was also a beautiful darling woman. In "Gold diggers 35" during the wonderful bookends of the girls on pianos number "The words are in my heart", while Dick Powell sang to her, Gloria looked like an angel. She looked so sweet and gorgeous sitting under that blossom tree in that  beautiful, very large ruffled dress. Gloria was also beautiful in numerous other 1930s films including "The invisible man", and when she sang while playing piano in one 1930s film, went blank on the name. Like Ruby, she made a fabulous comeback decades later with her infamous appearance as old Rose in "Titanic".

Her last name is spelled "Stuart". Strangely, her actual last name was spelled "Stewart", but she always used "Stuart" in her acting career.

Yes, that's right, I keep forgetting. That also explains why a couple of times when I googled Gloria spelling it Stewart instead of Stuart, Gloria Stewart, the wife of James Stewart popped up, who spells it Stewart, instead of the Gloria I'm talking about.

Myrna Loy (at least in her comedic roles in anything with Bill Powell)

Image result for myrna loy thin man

Here's a clip of her from "Third Finger Left Hand" in which she pretends to be illiterate in front of Melvyn Douglas' hometown neighbors in order to get back at him. Side note: I think her voice was adorably flute-like.

Fox has added her surviving late-50's "Shirley Temple Storybook" color-TV episodes to her 30's child-musicals on DVD, and...yes, she's still cute.  :)

I loved this show when I was a little girl. And I even had the book to go along with the stories.

About that time Ideal had a 1950's style Shirley Temple doll out which I got for Christmas.

I loved it a lot but when I sold it, a few years back, I did okay.

However, the lady I sold it to told me I could have done a lot better if I had had one of the original 1930s dolls.

I told her--I'm old, but I'm not that old! LOL

Wow, too many cuties to choose just one (or two, or three, or....).
(seems like my eyes have always been bigger than my.... in that regard) ;):)
Of course if child stars were allowed it would be Shirley Temple hands down.
But restricted to just adult female actresses from the 30's,.... I'll just add a couple that haven't been mentioned yet that have always caught my fancy.

Anita Louise and Dolores Costello
Maybe not quite as cutesy as some already mentioned, but still quite alluring in a very "cute" way I think. :P

Trouble finding a single cute picture to display for these dolls, so....
