How Sudan Got Off Donald Trump’s Latest Travel Ban List-

"....One country, though, managed to slip its way off: Sudan.

It caught Sudan-watchers by surprise.

"I have no idea how this happened and have not seen an explanation that makes sense. Since when did we have an effective lobby?"

Indeed, Sudan has precious little lobbying capacity. But it has a friend in the right place:

The United Arab Emirates recently began lobbying on Sudan’s behalf in Washington, putting its considerable capital to work. The diplomatic favor comes as Sudan has stepped up its on-the-ground involvement in the war in Yemen, giving the Saudi- and UAE-led coalition the kinds of boots on the ground those nations are uninterested in risking themselves, preferring to wage an aerial campaign instead.

“Sudan is doing the UAE’s dirty work,”.........

Why Is Chad in Trump’s New Travel Ban?

"...experts are befuddled by the decision to include Chad, one of America’s closest counter-terrorism partners in Africa.

“I’m scratching my head about this decision,” said Richard Downie, deputy director of the Africa program at the Center for Strategic International Studies. “I’m not going to even try to make sense of this one,” he added. ........

Downie added that the ban would only harm coordination between the Pentagon and Chad, saying it “cannot be anything but damaging to a bilateral relationship.”

Experts say Trump’s new ban will be harder to challenge in court because the additions of Venezuela and North Korea to the list distances the policy from Trump’s anti-Muslim comments on the campaign trail. His first two efforts at implementing a travel ban were struck down by federal courts.......

From the Globe and Mail

Trump team plays hardball in NAFTA talks with Buy America demands

The Buy American demands put forth by Donald Trump’s trade team are being described by one Canadian insider as the “worst proposal in any trade agreement” that’s ever been presented (for subscribers). The pitch, which came at North American free-trade agreement talks in Ottawa, would hinder Canadian companies’ ability to bid on U.S. government-funded infrastructure projects. And a big beneficiary of the U.S. proposal would be oil-rich Bahrain. Sources said the Persian Gulf country would have better access to bid on projects in the U.S. than Canda.

"The United States is pulling more than half its diplomatic personnel out of Cuba and warning Americans not to visit in response to mysterious sonic incidents that sickened 21 embassy staffers and their families.

"Some very bad things happened in Cuba," President Donald Trump said after the announcement by the State Department on Friday. "They did some bad things."

In addition to ordering all nonessential personnel and their families to leave, the U.S. will also suspend the processing of visas in Cuba, senior officials said...

Iran, EU and Russia defend nuclear deal after Trump threat-

"........Trump’s actions appeared to leave the United States relatively isolated on the world stage. His hawkish new stance toward Iran, including steps against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,

received strong backing only from Israel and Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia....

Trump’s donors are obsessed with starting war with Iran-

"....The billionaire Home Depot founder Bernard Marcus, for instance, has given Trump $101,700 to help pay Trump and Donald Trump Jr.’s legal fees following the probe into Russian election interference.

Hedge-fund billionaire Paul Singer is another major donor to pro-war groups in Washington who Trump has relied upon for financial support.

The most famous billionaire donor, of course, is Sheldon Adelson who has contributed $35 million to pro-Trump Super PAC Future 45.

All of these donors have pushed for war with Iran, though only Adelson has gone as far as to suggest the US should strike Iran with nuclear weapons as a negotiating tactic.

Thus far, Trump has gone with the advice of these billionaires on Iran over that of his Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff....

What Happened in Saudi Arabia Last Night — And How Washington Corruption Enabled It

"... The move marks a moment of reckoning for Washington’s foreign policy establishment, which struck a bargain of sorts with the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, and Yousef Al Otaiba, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to the U.S. who has been MBS’s leading advocate in Washington. The unspoken arrangement was clear: The UAE and Saudi Arabia would pump millions into Washington’s political ecosystem while mouthing a belief in “reform,” and Washington would pretend to believe that they meant it. ........

The TPP deal was said to be worth an extra 130 billion per year for the American economy.  Trump cancelled it because it sounded good to backward voters.

Brendan Cox on Anderson Cooper's CNN show last night said of Trump's anti-Muslim retweets from the radical right wing hate group was among other things an attack on the 'cohesion' in the UK.  And beyond that it is damaging to UK/American relations.  Trump's out-in-the-open racist retweets which have been applauded by Britain First and David Duke cannot be going down well with America's Muslim allies around the world.  Trump has probably made ISIS happy as he is doing their job for them.  One other chap who must be having a good old giggle is Vladmir Putin.  Trump is sewing the seeds of decisiveness in the western world and solidifying Russia's influence in the middle east.  You might wonder who Trump was working for.
