Trump lashes out at MSNBC's Joy Reid

....Trump lashes out at MSNBC's Joy Reid, claims she has 'NO talent'

"Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid? Never met her, she knows ZERO about me, has NO talent, and truly doesn’t have the 'it' factor needed for success in showbiz," Trump tweeted.

"Had a bad reputation, and now works for the Comcast/NBC losers making up phony stories about me. Low Ratings. Fake News!" he continued.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the president to go after Reid ahead of her Saturday morning show, though the MSNBC host had criticized recent remarks by Trump while guest hosting "All in with Chris Hayes" on Friday night....

The MSNBC host and a hashtag for her show, #AMJoy, trended on Twitter Saturday after the president's post, with members of the program appearing to take the president's tweet in stride.

"Great job getting us trending, #reiders! Can we get our #AMJoy hashtag even higher? Let's do it!" the host tweeted to her followers.

Trump's tweet Saturday morning came hours after Reid appeared on the network and highlighted a number of recent remarks by the president.

In a segment on Trump's visit to Baltimore for the House GOP retreat, she mocked his "Mike Pounce" gaffe and said he “went on to treat the gathered Republicans to some smoking hot beauty tips” while discussing his remarks on lightbulbs.

She also said that he sounded "like a desperate man" when he said "whether you like me or not it makes no difference because our country will go to Hell if any of these people get in."

Reid has been critical of the president in the past, releasing a book about Trump earlier this summer titled "The Man Who Sold America."

She said in a tweet earlier this month that Trump "has turned the presidency into a travel agency servicing the Trump Organization and its properties and golf clubs around the world." .........

As a foreign reporter visiting the US

I was stunned by Trump's press conference

".......I’ve read so many stories about his bluster and boasting and ill-founded attacks, I’ve listened to speeches and hours of analysis, and yet I was still taken back by just how disjointed and meandering the unedited president could sound.

Here he was trying to land the message that he had delivered at least something towards one of his biggest campaign promises and sounding like a construction manager with some long-winded and badly improvised sales lines.

I’d understood the dilemma of normalising Trump’s ideas and policies – the racism, misogyny and demonisation of the free press. But watching just one press conference from Otay Mesa helped me understand how the process of reporting about this president can mask and normalise his full and alarming incoherence....

Reporters Should Stop Helping Donald Trump Spread Lies About Joe Biden and Ukraine

"......... Biden’s intervention in Ukrainian affairs that year, when he successfully pressed Ukraine’s then-president to dismiss a chief prosecutor who had failed to pursue corruption investigations, was no secret and was widely praised by Ukrainian anti-corruption activists and international donors to the country. .....

Although Giuliani’s wild demeanor and rambling, self-contradictory remarks were widely mocked, Cuomo’s failure to interrupt his salvo of lies with corrections, captured in clips from the exchange created by Trump supporters, helped Giuliani’s false claims spread like wildfire online.

Had Cuomo been better prepared for the interview, he could have stopped Giuliani in his tracks and helped his viewers understand that the president and his lawyer have taken sides in a battle currently raging in Ukraine, between supporters of the old system and anti-corruption activists who are pressing for reform and transparency.

..... Chris Cuomo’s failure to properly challenge Giuliani on the jumbled details of the conspiracy theory he presented on live television on Thursday was followed on Friday by more coverage of the smearing of Biden seen primarily through the lens of politics, in which a presumed obligation to treat both sides equally

has obscured the fact that one side is lying. ........

On Saturday, the feedback loop — in which Trump and his surrogates fill the airwaves with lies about Biden, and political reporters discuss them as a problem for the Democrat — was closed with the release of an attack ad from Trump’s campaign,

featuring a highlight reel of speculation about Biden from ill-informed news anchors and Ken Vogel, all echoing the president’s false claim that Biden’s intervention in Ukraine, might, somehow, be scandalous.

She'll just probably be placed on another long vacation schedule like she was when she made fun of the student activist from the Parkland shooting.

“IT’S MANAGEMENT BEDLAM”: MADNESS AT FOX NEWS AS TRUMP FACES IMPEACHMENT

BY GABRIEL SHERMAN

A Trump identity crisis at Fox as Hannity frets, Lachlan Murdoch prepares for a post-Trump future, Paul Ryan whispers in Rupert’s ear, and Shep Smith and Tucker Carlson trade blows.

Trump’s biggest booster seems to be having doubts of his own. This morning, Sean Hannity told friends the whistle-blower’s allegations are “really bad,” a person briefed on Hannity’s conversations told me. (Hannity did not respond to a request for comment). And according to four sources, Fox Corp CEO Lachlan Murdoch is already thinking about how to position the network for a post-Trump future. A person close to Lachlan told me that Fox News has been the highest rated cable network for seventeen years, and “the success has never depended on any one administration.” (A Fox Corp spokesperson declined to comment.)

Hannity freaks, denies he said this,

but admits Gabe Sherman has sources within FOX.

Also, very curiously, doesn’t deny Paul Ryan is trying to get FOX to cut bait from Trump.

Connecticut newspaper calls on Trump to resign, citing 'damning evidence' from Ukraine call

......"Though we’re still at the beginning of the process, there is already a mountain of evidence implicating President Donald Trump with conduct far outside the accepted norms of a democratic leader.” .......

“The proper next step for the president is clear. He should resign,” the Connecticut Post editorial said.

“He has repeatedly proven himself unfit for office and appears to view the presidency as a position meant to benefit himself personally, not as one that must represent the interests of an entire nation.” .....

But what we know is enough, and because it’s from the president himself, there’s no reason to question its veracity. There’s no going back from here,” the editorial reads. “The long, bumpy ride of the Trump era may have turned a corner, but it’s nowhere near over.” ..........

Trump loyalists are working hard to defend the president. It isn’t going well.

Stephen Miller struggles on Fox News, and other lowlights from the Sunday morning efforts to defend the president.

"....White House adviser Stephen Miller was taken to task by Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday. In stark contrast to the way Trump loyalists are usually treated by Wallace’s network, the Fox News Sunday host wouldn’t let Miller get away with the deflections he tried to use to twist Trump’s Ukraine scandal in one about Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

“This is an exercise in obfuscation,” Wallace said at one point

after Miller repeatedly refused to answer questions about why Trump would ever think it was appropriate to use his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, to push for investigations of Biden, and about why Trump went against the guidance of his own Pentagon and State Department and decided to temporarily withhold aid to the country —

Instead of defending Trump on the merits, Miller focused on pushing conspiracy theories about the Bidens — but even so, he couldn’t cite a single law that he thought was broken.

And the interview ended with Wallace repeatedly correcting misstatements Miller made about the scope of Trump’s powers and about the “coequal” relationship between the executive branch and a Congress that seems to be moving toward impeachment hearings. ........

On CNN’s State of the Union, one of Trump’s staunchest defenders in Congress, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), employed a strategy for defending Trump was similar to Miller’s — namely, trying to change the topic by pushing unfounded allegations about the Bidens.

But as host Jake Tapper highlighted, Jordan was skating on thin ice. Because while he has no problem tossing around unsubstantiated allegations about the Bidens, Jordan — a former assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State — has recently been under scrutiny for allegedly turning a blind eye to a sexual abuse scandal at the school.......

Rudy Giuliani, who of late has appeared in a string of TV interviews that only seem to be making things worse for the president, took a similar tack. On ABC’s This Week, the president’s lawyer said that he was focused on “proving that Donald Trump was framed by the Democrats,” but couldn’t answer for why, if the Biden allegations he’s been pushing are credible, they aren’t being investigated by domestic law enforcement agencies. ....

Meanwhile, on CBS’s Face the Nation, host Margaret Brennan pushed back on Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) when Graham tried to dismiss the aforementioned whistleblower report as “hearsay.”

“You’re saying this is hearsay — the complaint, on a number of fronts, is matched by the call record,” Brennan noted,....

Graham had no retort other than to insist that Brennan was wrong, and eventually told her, “You know, you’ve got an opinion, I’ve got an opinion.” ..........

the main impression left by Trump defenders’ media tour on Sunday:

not that they’re victims of media bias,

but that they’re woefully unprepared to defend a president

whose conduct is becoming increasingly hard to justify. "

Editorial: Trump is exhausting the nation's and his party's patience. Time to dump him.

"..... Trump had no apparent authority to launch his independent corruption probe and bring in his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, to follow up with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Trump — who has paid off a porn star, bragged about sexually abusing women and openly urged Russia to meddle in the 2016 presidential campaign

— ranks as the most corrupt U.S. president since Richard Nixon. .....

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., accurately labeled the exchange a “classic, Mafia-like shakedown of a foreign country.”

How far must a president go in betraying his country before Republicans finally declare that he no longer represents their values? How much crisis, chaos and scandal can Republicans, exhausted from constantly defending him, tolerate before they decide enough’s enough?

The time has come for Republicans to stand up for the Constitution, stand up for America,

and tell Trump to step down."

CNN Rejects 2 Trump Campaign Ads, Citing Inaccuracies

CNN rejected a pair of provocative ads from President Trump’s re-election campaign on Thursday, saying the 30-second spots deriding the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry — one deeming the effort “nothing short of a coup” — contained inaccuracies and unfairly attacked the network’s journalists.

It is unusual but not unprecedented for television networks to reject a political advertisement from a presidential candidate. On the eve of last year’s midterm elections, major channels, including Fox News, removed a commercial from Mr. Trump’s political team that portrayed immigrants as a violent threat......

News anchors fight back against GOP senators’ refusal to condemn Trump

As lawmakers retreat from scrutiny, TV hosts are taking unusual steps to hold them accountable.

"...... CNN’s Jake Tapper proclaimed on Sunday that no Republican Senate or House leaders would appear on his “State of the Union” to defend Trump;

over on NBC, Chuck Todd expressed exasperation at one GOP senator who did agree to appear, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, for refusing to answer whether Trump’s actions were wrong. .....

“GOP Lawmakers Silent On Trump’s Call For China To Dig Up Biden Dirt,” read the on-screen graphic, followed by the names of the lawmakers. ......

Reporters call out the State Department for ‘lockdown’ on Ukraine

Questions about the department’s role in events covered by the impeachment inquiry go unacknowledged, says correspondents’ association.

".....reporters have been directed to put Ukraine-specific requests to Katie Martin, a deputy assistant secretary for media strategy who joined in March from the National Republican Senatorial Committee. But reporters say their questions rarely yield answers, and often go unacknowledged.

"The requests kind of disappear into the ether," said a third reporter. And this lack of clarity from the administration, the reporter said, hampers journalists' ability “to explain what is happening to the American public.”

.... “We hear things on the Hill, the White House is speaking quite a bit, and we have essentially nothing from the State Department." .......

Wednesday, Pompeo sat down with PBS NewsHour anchor Judy Woodruff to make clear that the administration opposes the Turkish assault on northern Syria. Pompeo answered Woodruff’s questions on other topics, including on Ukraine, though

at one point suggested the journalist worked for the Democratic National Committee after she suggested “there’s been no proof of any misdoing on the part of Vice President Biden” .....

Trump called head of Fox News to complain about coverage: report

By Chris Mills Rodrigo - 10/13/19 08:29 PM EDT

"

President Trump complained about coverage of himself to Fox News chief executive Suzanne Scott in a phone call late this summer, the New York Times reported Sunday.......

The president has taken issue with the network's pollsters, saying they "suck" after a poll found majority support for impeachment.

Trump has also complained about several of the network's polls that showed him trailing his Democratic challengers in potential 2020 matchups and regularly lashes out at employees who are critical of him.

He tweeted in August that the cable network "isn't working for us anymore" and that his supporters "have to start looking for a new News Outlet."

Despite that criticism, the network's anchors are largely supportive of the president......
