Did any of you get a chance to look at the guest programmer videos on the Youtube channels SonOfASpaceApe and tcm fanatic? The first channel starts at Madeleine Stowe and ends at Tina Fey. The second channel starts at Steve Israel and ends at Michael Connelly.

Are any of you familiar with the film The Eddie Duchin Story (1956)?

Yes, I have seen this film a few times on Get-TV (since that station shows a lot of Columbia films).

Fine film and solid performances by all.   My favorite scene is where his son and his friends join Eddie's band during a rehearsal and get to jam with the band.

Good part for James Whitmore;  I single him out since TCM honored his recently and I was reminded how good he was providing support, as well as his view leading roles.

Touching film and while the ending is sad,  it is also uplifting.

How many films from this guest programmer list have you seen? It has to either be an estimate or an exact number.

I have seen 261 - A couple of them in the theatre when they came out, but for the most part all on TCM ... the ultimate place for classic film fans.

Speaking of guest programmers, I was happily surprised to see Dennis Miller in this role for May.  I'm not only a huge fan of TCM, but Dennis as well.  I wish they'd have him as a regular.

BTW, this list of guest programmers & their picks is handy - thanks for posting.  Were there any earlier than 2005, or was that when they began the guest programmer series?

To answer your question, that was the year that the guest programmer series began; in the year 2005.

The films on this list is a recommendation for film buffs that are interested in watching films that only are shown once in the guest programmer list.

Are there any updates of who is going to be the guest programmer in September?

There will not be a formal guest programmer, per se, in September. It seems that TCM has, at least temporarily, discontinued the guest programmer series in favour of having more people come in to guest host other themed programming on TCM -- the Spotlight series, the Essentials and so forth.

Does anybody have any idea of when the guest programmer series will continue, even in the month of October? I am just getting a little bit anxious about all of this.

Well, we know that there is not going to be a formal guest programmer in July or September. The October schedule will be posted next week, but I doubt if there will be a guest programmer night that month either.
