As you know,  Romney has no official powers to do anything.    E.g. He doesn't have a vote with regards to impeachment.     Your post implies you expect him do so something and I'm curious what this something is.

(of course I would want him to vote for a conviction if\when Trump is impeached).

He could try and put a motion before the Senate, which McConnell would probably reject.  He sits on some committee where he could raise the issue whether relevant to that committee or not.

Any senator—Democrat, Republican or Independent

— who sends out a fundraising email saying how he or she is going to vote (guilty or not guilty)

BEFORE THE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL is asking to be paid for that vote.

That senator should be expelled from the Senate for corruption.

That's just stupid and this guy is running for the US Senate.

While it is probably inappropriate to say how you would vote in the trial at this point, it is in NO WAY "asking to be paid for that vote."  No more so than saying you will vote for election reform or Medicare For All or ending the war in Afghanistan or a multitude of other issues if elected.  Many people in this country have already decided that based on the evidence so far, Trump should be impeached and convicted.  Majority on this board have that opinion (me included).

Chuck Todd: “You dont trust the FBI or CIA?”

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI): “No, I don’t! I didn’t then & I never have.”

I'm sure it has nothing to do with Johnson spending the 4th of July in Russia
and declaring that Russian elex interference was no biggie.

If reports about US retreat in #Syria are accurate, the Trump administration has made a grave mistake

that will have implications far beyond Syria.

It would confirm #Iran’s view of this administration & embolden then to escalate hostile attacks

which in turn could trigger much broader & more dangerous regional war.

The very real problems is that Graham, Rubio, et. al. are the enablers that let Trump get away with this abandonment of our allies in order to favor the territorial and other aspirations of dictators

Next week they will be right back on his side and he'll be playing golf in Rubio's Florida with Graham as his caddy.

Remember how McConnell said Obama couldn't get a SCOTUS pick because it was too close to the 2016 vote?

Then remember how McConnell blocked Obama from telling us Russia was INTERFERING with the 2016 vote?

Well, now they say it's too close to the 2020 vote to honor rule of law....

(in 2012) After the Obama White House invoked executive privilege over some documents during the Fast and Furious investigation,(Trey Gowdy) the congressman blasted the Obama administration for doing the same thing the Trump administration seems to be doing now.

“The notion that you can withhold information and documents from Congress no matter whether you are the party in power or not in power is wrong.

Respect for the rule of law must mean something, irrespective of the vicissitudes of political cycles,” Gowdy said at the time.

Trump warns GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell about disloyal Republicans

......Trump has been lashing out at GOP senators he sees as disloyal, according to the person familiar with the conversations, telling McConnell he will amplify attacks on those Republicans who criticize him.

McConnell faces his own dilemma of having to preserve the Republican majority in the Senate, while also placating an erratic President who demands nothing short of total loyalty. That will become harder as more details about Trump's dealings with Ukraine trickle out......

Eventually it will be a matter of self-preservation.

Civil rights groups slam RNC for 'fraudulent' census mailers to Montana residents

The civil rights groups have asked the head of the post office to investigate the matter because the mailer may violate federal law.

The RNC sent the forms — titled the 2019 Congressional District Census Mailer — to addresses in Bozeman, Montana, and informed recipients that "Your Participation is Urgently Needed,"

with instructions such as "Do Not Destroy Official Document," and "return your Census Document." Sent in late September, the forms told recipients to return by Oct. 15.

In their letter, The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and The Native American Rights Fund argue that the mailers violate the Prevent Deceptive Census Look Alike Mailings Act and could sow confusion among Native American communities in the state.....

The RNC form includes questions about political party affiliation, foreign election interference and if they plan to support Trump in the 2020 election, among other topics.

It also asks for donations to the RNC and the Trump re-election campaign ranging from $25 to $1,000. If they are unable to pay those amounts, it urges recipients to send $15 to "help pay for the costs of processing my Census Document."

"This creates a fear among individuals and communities that they must respond to the official Census, and it is likely that many will view the mailing as just that — because it says it is," the letter said.

"Furthermore, the letter solicits a contribution.....

GOP Rep. Mike Conaway, who sits on Intel, told me he’s not concerned with Rudy Giuliani’s role driving US policy toward Ukraine. “The president gets to run his White House the way he wants to, he’s got trusted advisers - some are on the US payroll, some are not.”

Conaway added: “So he should have wide latitude as to how he gets his advice.”

John Kasich is pro-impeachment:

"Look, I fought with people on the air about, 'is there a quid pro quo' and 'does this rise to the level of impeachment.' I now believe that it does. And I say it with great sadness. This is not something I really wanted to do."

Pelosi says this photo came as she told President Trump,

“all roads with you lead to Putin”

notice the expression on Kevin McCarthy’s face

three years ago, McCarthy told his GOP colleagues privately:
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God.”

after McCarthy linked Trump and Putin in that June 2016 meeting,

Pelosi’s predecessor, then-Speaker Paul Ryan,

told fellow Republicans present not to disclose it to anyone else. “No leaks,” Ryan said.
“This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

Mark Levin: ‘Hasn’t Even Been a Hint of Scandal’ in Trump’s Presidency

a3be267870b52f03d1a860ffe2ea86a7

During a recent broadcast of his Blaze TV show, Levin—who also hosts a Fox News weekend program—took aim at Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) over the former GOP presidential nominee ramping up his criticism of Trump as the Ukraine scandal has deepened.

With it recently being revealed that Romney had a clandestine Twitter account used for criticizing Trump’s behavior, among other things, Levin took the opportunity to claim that Romney “known nothing about” the personal lives and behavior of former President Barack Obama or ex-Vice President Joe Biden “outside of what we’ve been told.”

“And they kept the [John] Kennedy stuff hidden for decades, they kept the [Lyndon] Johnson stuff hidden for decades, they kept the FDR stuff hidden for decades, and his affairs and so forth,” the conservative commentator added, implying that Obama/Biden had skeletons in their closets.

Levin proceeded to go on a largely confusing rant in which he said he wanted to question Romney about the Founding Fathers’ sexual affairs and whether he thought it was right for Franklin Roosevelt to team up with Russia during World War II.

“What do you think about that, Willard?” Levin grumbled. “I can go through history, one case after another, about how people are so terribly imperfect.”

“But I will say this about our president,” the pro-Trump host continued: “While he’s been president there hasn’t even been a hint of scandal. Not a hint!”

Senate Republicans block two election security bills

Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked legislation that would provide funding for states to shore up election security and create more transparency around online advertisements.

Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) blocked passage of the Honest Ads Act, sponsored by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), saying work was needed to make the measure more bipartisan.

Klobuchar's bill, whose lone GOP co-sponsor is Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), would require online platforms to make “all reasonable efforts” to ensure foreign entities are not buying political ads. It also would require public disclosure of who paid for the ad.......

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) later came to the floor and attempted to pass the Election Security Act, a measure with 40 Democratic co-sponsors that would give states $1 billion for election security efforts and require backup paper ballots.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) blocked its passage, arguing the bill had “more red flags than the Chinese Embassy.” He added that the level of funding was excessive when considering the $380 million appropriated to states last year for election security.

“We had no problems in 2018,” Kennedy said,....

Klobuchar's and Durbin's efforts mark the latest attempt by Senate Democrats to pressure their GOP colleagues to allow votes on election security. ..........
