Disastrous Fyre Festival Hit With $100 Million Lawsuit

The fallout from the disastrous Fyre Festival continued on Sunday (May 1) when attorney Mark Geragos (Chris Brown, Michael Jackson) filed a proposed $100 million class-action lawsuit against organizers on behalf of client Daniel Jung. The suit accuses organizers of fraud, citing the fest's "lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees — suddenly finding themselves stranded on a remote island without basic provisions."

The event, which was advertised as a two-weekend luxury getaway on a private Caribbean island with high-end food and accommodations, attendance by supermodel such as Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski and sets from G.O.O.D. Music's Tyga, Desiigner and Pusha T, as well as Blink-182, Disclosure, Major Lazer and more fell into chaos on Thursday at early arrivers realized that the festival grounds were not as advertised.

"Attendees’ efforts to escape the unfolding disaster were hamstrung by their reliance upon Defendants for transportation, as well as by the fact that Defendants promoted the festival as a 'cashless' event—Defendants instructed attendees to upload funds to a wristband for use at the festival rather than bringing any cash," reads the suit. "As such, Attendees were unable to purchase basic transportation on local taxis or busses, which accept only cash. As a result of Defendants’ roadblocks to escape, at least one attendee suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness after being locked inside a nearby building with other concert-goers waiting to be airlifted from the island."

They should have flown Bernie in to tell them all this is how the world should live. It's was eco-friendly and cashless.

What this has to do with Bernie Sanders I'll never know.  Whatever one's political beliefs, I'm sure Bernie endorses things like shelter, food, water, sanitation.

It's hard to feel sorry for anyone willing to fork over that much money for a weekend just to hobnob with some musical acts and models.  A party of four pays a quarter of a million dollars and gets a cheese sandwich and a tent?  Poor slobs probably thought they were going to get a Caligula-like experience with fountains of champagne, endless music, s e x, etc..  What a waste...

This was a rip-off that should have been called off long before anyone arrived.  Lawsuits, refunds - I bet nobody's getting their money back.  This may kill off the luxury festival market and I doubt most of us will miss it.

Fyre Festival organizer Billy McFarland sentenced to 6 years on fraud charges

The organizer of a failed Caribbean music festival was sentenced Thursday to a combined prison term of six years in prison for fraud.

Billy McFarland, 26 was taken into custody following the sentencing in federal court in Manhattan for his role in the Fyre Festival, a music concert that was supposed to place in the Bahamas in April 2017. People paid thousands of dollars for tickets and accommodations to what was supposed to be a luxury musical festival in the Caribbean, but upon arrival were met with FEMA tents and cheese sandwiches and no concert.

Celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid endorsed the event on their social media pages. Fyre Festival cost investors, including rapper Ja Rule, $26 million — roughly the same amount the judge ordered him on Thursday to forfeit.

McFarland apologized during his sentencing and said that a "fear of letting everybody down" drove him to make mistakes.

"I made decisions that were a slap in the face to everything my family tried to teach me," McFarland said in court.

This Fyre Festival was a good case of socialism; they tell you one thing, and you end up with a cheese sandwich and sleep on the ground.
