It will be on tomorrow night...

This was very good but I thought the WW II lovers were more interesting than the modern drama- but still this was a real classic Hollywood style gay romance

Yes, the first hour was far more interesting than the second.

I especially liked the first two lovers in the first hour.

I agree they had real chemistry as you can tell from the clip but hey who doesn't want to lick that beautiful hairy chest.   The modern day sequence couple did not have any chemistry and I found the transition a bit confusing- who was that guy suppose to be.  But the first hour was very romantic and sexy I wanted more of these two

He was the son of the child that Oliver Jackson Cohen and his wife had.

So, he became Oliver Jackson Cohen's grandson.

I agree, the second hour, in trying to show us how far England has come in terms of accepting homosexuality, was a big, big mistake.

The last two actors had no chemisty.

(Oliver Jackson Cohen's chest was heaven-sent.)

I hope we see more of Mr Jackso Cohen's chest and beautiful eyes....if I had made the film I would have brought him back as the grandson - or would have cross cut between the two periods- the film really should have ended with a flash back to the original couple- I would like to see more gay period romances

I think that the TV movie was based on a play that was produced in England and then later was produced for a limited run Off Broadway.

I can't remember the title, though.

This reminded me so much of Alan Hollinghurst's new book, The Sparsholt Affair. His last couple of books (The Stranger's Child as well) have been trans-generational chronicles of gay lives and the ripple effects of gay love through time. BBC did an adaptation of his The Line of Beauty, about some Thatcher-era gay lives, but I'd love to see them (or someone) try The Sparsholt Affair. You're so right about gay period romances being an important way to look at social and cultural history.

It looks like some kind of in-house Navy thing, maybe for use within the military but not necessarily for the public. All the gaping holes in the fronts of the men's shorts (not that I objected in the least) and the sight of some men sitting on the commode would indicate it wasn't for public consumption. Or maybe it was the private stash of someone high up on the chain of command?

I agree- it was probably made to be shown to sailors before they shipped out- so that they would be aware of the conditions they would have to deal with.  The director had a good eye for good looking young men in white briefs- the close quarters suggest a lot of intimate contact-a sailor life is tough.  I like the idea of the film made for some higher up private consumption- hmm secret navy porn...😉

😎

It was a field day for a constant parade of male derrieres, all of which were quite "fetching".😎

I still haven't caught up with this one. It was referenced in the Cooper doc they just showed on his SUTS day, but without much info. I trust my guys (jaragon and rayban) to have the dirt.
