Yeah, he was a "broken man" for a few months, then he

was back again as a self-appointed foreign policy guru.

The funniest thing to me about the whole Carter issue was that when he was running for office, the republicans made a HUGE deal out of his "D.C. inexperience".  "He's never held an office HIGHER than GOVERNOR of a STATE! " they cried.  "HOW can we expect him to know how to handle the affairs of an ENTIRE NATION?"  they exclamed.  And what Ford was saying.

So, WHO did the republicans choose to oppose him come the NEXT election?

Why, former GOVERNOR Ronald Reagan!  Somehow, HE had more "D.C.experience" than former GOVERNOR Jimmy Carter.

Go figure.  :D

Sepiatone

Yeah, and now the REALLY "funny" thing is that 36 YEARS later the Republican Party would nominate a certain television reality show host of a man-child possessing absolutely NO experience in governance.

And thus of course, another case of "the outsider" catching the imagination of the public.

(...well, "catching the imagination" of "a certain segment" of the public, anyway...Yeeeeeah, "a certain segment", and I'll just leave it at that for now) ;)

Hmmmm...kind'a makes ya wonder what Harry S. Truman would've said about Donald J. Trump, doesn't it.

(...MY guess, and knowing how Harry could be rather "colorful" with his language on occasion, would be that it would have included a mention of some other body part other than the mouth) ;)

"Oh well, this is a can of worms as you know a lot of this stuff that went

on. And the people who worked this way are awfully embarrassed. But

the way you have handed all this seems to me has been very skillful

putting your fingers in the leaks that have sprung here and sprung

there. The Grand Jury is dismissed now?"

"Look out how you use proud words.
When you let proud words go, it is not easy to call them back.
They wear long boots, hard boots; they walk off proud; they can't hear you calling—
Look out how you use proud words."

This reminds me of a line I once heard with a similar thought...

"A man unconcerned with politics, is like a drowning man unconcerned with water."

(...just wish I knew who said it...anybody know?)
