Your Favorite Movie Love Stories

247 posts in this topic

If you like to make lists, what are your Top 5 or Top 10 favorite movie love stories? I believe many of the most interesting couplings have been featured in various movie genres, so feel free to include comedy, film noir, western or any other type of film you feel presented a compelling (or entertaining) love story.

Hi B4E!

Great list---I know alot of people find the couples in The Best Years of Our Lives very touching and real. Married love--happy and unhappy, and new love are each depicted with honesty and great feeling by William Wyler.

Can you tell me who is in Come Next Spring? That one doesn't ring a bell.

BTW...beautiful pic of William Holden.

Thanks. I wish I could get rid of the annoying watermark. It's taken from one of my favorites (I'm watching the dvd now), Love is a Many Splendored Thing. Bill Holden starred in quite a few romantic movies, he was an ideal romantic leading man.

The amazing, wonderully talented Steve Cochran is in "Come Next Spring".

William Holden IS a perfect romantic leading man. Just like his, and my, idol Gary Cooper.

I haven't seen that Holden film yet but the picture is beautiful.

"The Best Years of Our Lives" is one of m yall time fav films. I cried several times during it. Mr. March more than deserved his Oscar.

I've only seen Steve Cochran in films noir...it would be interesting to see him in a different kind of movie.

You should rent Love is a Many Splendored Thing if you haven't seen it---it's an all time romance classic, with one of the most famous love themes by Alfred Newman.

Steve Cochran is a fanatstic actor isn't he? I just love him. I feel he's underappreciated just like Joel McCrea, John Gilbert and George Raft. They are all wonderful and I wish more people knew about them.

"Il Grido" is another beautiful film of Steve Cochran's.

Isn't the "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" the same one on the "Grease" soundtrack?? If so..it is a beautiful theme.

Yes, it is. It won Oscars for Best Score and Best Song.

Yes, I like Joel McRea. My favorites with him are probably *The Palm Beach Story* and Stars in My Crown. He was very good looking.

What about Fredric March and George Raft?

I like them both but they aren't huge favorites. I liked Fred in *The Best Years of Our Lives* and *I Married a Witch* with Veronica Lake.

Hi Miss G(one with the Wind) -- Here's my top ten favorite love stories:

1. To Catch a Thief (I'm madly in love with MY Grace).

2. Peter Ibbetson

3. They Live by Night

4. Tabu: A Story of the South Seas

5. The 39 Steps

6. The Man Who Laughs

7. Notorious

8. Portrait of Jennie

9. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

10. Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

If you are talking about love stories within non-romantic films, I'll have to think about

that a little harder. I can come up with another list just for those films, if you like.

In the meantime, I'm going to post some caps from some of the films on my list.

There's no way I'm passing up a chance to post To Catch a Thief caps.
