So, the incumbent senator from Mississippi, who is heading into a runoff against an African-American opponent, is joking about public hangings in front of an apparently all-white crowd. In Mississippi.

When “Mississippi Burning” is the movie most closely associated with the image of your state and you don’t have the good sense not to make public hanging jokes, you’re not fit to hold public office.

You can take the Jim Crow out of the state, but not always out of the state of mind.

It is so hard to find words... This is why every single day we work hard to educate. We need to explain what is the danger of hateful ideology rising.

Auschwitz with its gas chambers was at the very end of the long process of normalizing and accommodating hatred.

If anybody from Baraboo High School in Wisconsin can clue me in on

why it appears the entire male class of 2018 is throwing up a Sig Heil during their prom photos

- that would be great. h/t @CarlySidey

And how do anti-Semitic conspiracy theories--

concerning a Jewish philanthropist --

That are disseminated through  right-wing media lead to innocent Americans being murdered in a Pittsburgh synagogue?

A man stood up and shouted, “Heil Hitler! Heil Trump!” during a Baltimore performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” last night.

Audience members started running.

“I’ll be honest, I was waiting to hear a gunshot. I thought, ‘Here we go,’” one said.

It’s hilarious to joke about voter suppression in a state with a history of African-Americans who wanted to vote facing terror like being fire bombed out of their homes or being mutilated and killed.

Unfortunately we have dual histories when it comes to racism in the United States. We have the history of slavery and Jim Crow, the history of Japanese relocation camps, the history of Native American genocide.

Fortunately we also have a history of Martin Luther King jr's Nonviolent Civil Rights Movement, positive civil rights legislation from Harry S Truman and Lyndon B Johnson and civil rights activists from all Races, ethnicities and classes-- people like--

*Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman, two Young Jewish white men from New York City who were murdered by the Klan because they were trying to register black voters in Mississippi, 1964. Schwerner and Goodman were joined by a young black man who was from the area, James Chaney-- he was murdered as well.

These are those three famous Civil Rights workers who were martyrs to the cause of anti- racism in America. But there was also a little-known martyr at this time - - a white woman.

Viola Liuzzo was a white housewife and mother of five when she volunteered in 1965 to go to Selma Alabama to work in the Civil Rights Movement. She did this because she was an Unitarian Universalist Activist. She volunteered to be a driver for participants in the Selma to Montgomery March.

On March 25th, 1965, the 39 year -old white housewife from Michigan was shot dead by 3 Ku Klux Klan members, as she was on her way back from shuttling an activist to the Montgomery Airport.

These are just a few of the many Martyrs against racism in the United States.

Heather Heyer, a 32 year -old white woman from Virginia, has now joined this illustrious group of people who willingly gave their lives so that America could be a real democracy and true to its Constitutional heritage.

In America we have a choice of going down one of these roads.

Our history has not been all bad and it certainly hasn't been all good, yet at the same time only we alone can create the future.

In 1921 Tulsa's white citizens attacked the black members of one of the wealthiest black communities in America.

The attack occurred on air and on land, an estimated 300 black people were murdered, while more than  800 were injured.

Known as The Tulsa Massacre, it is considered to be one of the worst examples of white domestic terrorism on black Americans.

It was really the domestic terrorism of the Klan that gave her the resolve to do something to fight

Senator Kamala Harris spearheaded this anti-lynching bill which had previously been blocked an estimation of 200 times by Southern senators.

Come on, this bill is just a political stunt.     Lynching is already murder,  as well as a federal hate crime.

Just another example of politicians pretending to do something for a community (in this case African-Americans) that is empty and fake,  just to get their votes.

Pennsylvania police investigating threatening letters sent to minorities

signed 'Donald and his Crew'

......''Dear Non-U.S. Citizens,” the letter begins. “Due to the our recently elected president, Donald Trump, and his amazing changes, there is now a law against filthy nutheads like yourself living in our country.”

The letter continues by saying the residents will be evicted from their homes at “9 a.m. tomorrow afternoon,” but “Donald and his crew think its best if you pack ur bags tonight and don’t say goodbye to any1.”

The letter then threatens that if the residents are not in “New Mexico (city)” then they will “1. Put u up for adoption” and “2. Execute u and ur kidos.”

The letter also suggests the recipients get jobs at McDonald's, Denny’s or as legal prostitutes, the newspaper reported.

It is signed “Sincerely, Donald and his Crew, specifically Mike Pence.”

It also includes a “#MAGA,” referencing Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

Students at local Strath Haven High School are reportedly suspected of writing the threats

and separately posing for a photo wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods, ABC 6 News reported. The two incidents may be linked.........

America's oldest living World War II veteran, Richard Overton, dead at 112 https://trib.al/oapySzN

So sad to hear my buddy Richard Overton died. Overton was America’s oldest veteran. He slipped away today in Austin, TX at 112. We drank whisky and smoked cigars a few years back. RIP sir. Thank you.

DveHKw2XQAIwsp9.jpg

This veteran served his country in World War II in a segregated Jim Crow unit, which demeaned his Humanity and his citizenship.

Jim Crow segregation was led by the belief in white supremacy.

Yet thousands of American black men and women served their country as Patriots in the military during World War II despite American institutionalized racism.

As we honor this veteran as the last World War II veteran alive, let's also honor him as the last black veteran from the Jim Crow units of World War II,

who still served bravely despite the imposed handicap of discrimination.

**White supremacy is the ruling principle of American institutionalized racism.

***White supremacy is the ruling principle of The Proud boys, the Ku Klux Klan, the neo-nazis, and trump's trumpism among his base supporters.

That's America-- past, and current.

However with the kind of young people that we have today particularly--

the way they are working, studying, living, dating and in general interacting in such close proximity and Harmony in diversity and multiculturalism--

White supremacy will not be the ruling principle of the future of America.
