Early Now Playing guide

15 posts in this topic

For those of you who would like an early reference for the TCM October schedule, here is a partial substitute for the Now Playing guide.

In general, the Now Playing guide consisted of two main parts:

 (1) The monthly movie listings with the full details for each film, including plot summary, director, stars, etc.

- For this you can refer to the online monthly schedule for October at:

http://www.tcm.com/schedule/october2017.html

(Ignore the banner at the top which shows the current Star of the Month.)

There are also online daily and weekly schedules, if you prefer either of those.

 (2) The ‘At A Glance’ section which gives an overview of the schedule highlights, daytime themes, primetime themes, premieres, etc.

- Attached is a rough ‘At A Glance’ document which has been assembled from the online schedule data (5 pages in PDF format).

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mipqh6bowcua42t/OCT%20AT%20A%20GLANCE.pdf?dl=0

Some comments:
- TCM premieres are indicated with ‘(P)’ preceding the movie title.
- Each premiere for the month is listed under the corresponding date section, regardless of the start time. (TCM has previously only listed premieres that were scheduled to start during primetime hours, or were part of one of the weekend ‘showcases’.)
- Thanks to MovieCollectorOH for the TCM premiere data.
- The daytime themes are best guesses since this information is currently not online.
- Hope you find this helpful.

This is fantastic. I had downloaded the monthly schedule to use over the holiday weekend and was really missing the theme info. Beyond that I always like to scope out the Silent Sunday Nights and Imports for the month so I was really missing that. And the PREMIERES!!! Yea!! Always try to scope those out to see the movies I haven't seen before. Thank you so much you kind, wonderful, helpful person!

Just a reminder for those who would like early schedule information for October, you can use the links in the original message below to see the full TCM schedule as well as a roughly equivalent 'At A Glance' section.

I fixed the link to the At A Glance section above so that you no longer have to be signed in to view it.  I also made a few mostly cosmetic changes to the .PDF file from the original post.

Note:  If you use Safari as your web browser on a Mac, you may need to 'right-click' on the link and pick 'Open Link in New Window' or a similar option.

Thanks for the very nice comments.  I plan to provide similar information for November sometime early in October.

Thanks cmovieviewer, those AT A GLANCE really helps me out. I search the schedule a month in advance to plan what to watch & what to record for later. I still miss a few "should have watched" based on this board's conversation after the fact. So the more info I can view "beforehand" the better.

Somehow I had missed this thread before....but I'll be sure to check in the future.

BTW, when "at a glance" is viewed using your link, I only see PG 1. I substituted a "1" for the "0" at the end of the URL and it instantly d/l the entire PDF to my desktop. Easy.

Let's hope March is researched as easily.
THANKS!

Thanks, cmovieviewer.  I appreciate the information you make available well in advance of the next month.  I'm still adjusting to the lack of a paper Now Playing Guide mailed to me a few weeks ahead of the coming month.  With your links and information, I can take my time in looking over At A Glance and the list of premieres for films I'd like to view and/or record before they've already been broadcast.  Thanks again.
