Walmart is abruptly closing 63 Sam's Club stores and laying off thousands of workers

  • Walmart is abruptly closing 63 Sam's Club locations across the US, the company told Business Insider. Some stores were closed on Thursday. Others will close at a later date.
  • Many employees were not informed of the closures ahead of the time, according to reports.
  • 10 of the closed stores will be turned into ecommerce distribution centres.

A year ago, Trump told Carrier workers he saved their jobs, in return for giving the company $7M in taxpayer money.

In July, 340 of those workers were laid off. Today, 215 more of those workers are being laid off.

Trump lied to workers, all for a photo op.

  • Thanks 1

Remember when CEOs said they'd create thousands of jobs if we gave them massive tax cuts?

Well, AT&T, Comcast and Pfizer just laid off hundreds of workers right after the Republicans passed their pathetic tax bill.

Looks like Bernie is as lame as Trump using anecdotal 'stories' to link the just passed GOP tax plan to jobs (either being created or lost).

While it is highly likely the GOP tax plan will not lead to job growth or increased wages,   companies giving bonus isn't a sign the tax plan is great, anymore than 3 companies laying off workers (for reasons that were in the works way before the tax plan became law),  is a sign the tax plan will lead to job loses and increased wage stagnation.

But it looks like Sanders is going to tweet counter-BS to Trump's tweet BS.    What a sad commentary on the current American political situation.

After massive corporate tax cut, Walmart fires thousands, says they can REAPPLY FOR LOWER-PAYING JOBS https://goo.gl/EXfE28

This is mostly fake news, especially the BS picture.    Walmart is firing staff from their corporate headquarters.

The Sam Clubs shutdowns have been in the works for over a year.    Now Walmart practiced BS by giving those bonus as a way to say the Tax Reform bill is good for low pay worker,  but these corporate headquarter layoff are not connected.

In addition 2 times increase in the standard deduction,  I assume the vast majority of WalMart workers will pay less in taxes.    The tax plans hurts mostly those with incomes in the 70K - 250K range in states with high income and property taxes.     That isn't your typically WalMart worker.
