Ten members of uncontacted Amazonian tribe 'are slaughtered after running into gold miners in Brazil'

  • Government agency believes miners killed tribesmen along the Amazon river
  • Agency workers say men bragged about cutting up their bodies in a nearby bar
  • If true, the massacre has likely wiped out a significant proportion of the tribe
  • Back in 2011 a whole tribe disappeared after being attacked by drug smugglers

TELEMMGLPICT000035012721_trans_NvBQzQNjv

"David Slater, the photographer whose camera was commandeered by a crested black macaque, has agreed to donate 25 per cent of the royalties generated by the photos with animal charities dedicated to protecting the monkeys' natural habitat.

The agreement brings to an end to a dispute which originated in 2011 when Mr Slater travelled to  Sulawesi, Indonesia, and spent a week taking pictures of macaques.

At one point he mounted the camera on a tripod and one of the monkeys started pressing the shutter button. .....

Italian Bank Robbers Wear Trump Masks During Heists

"Italian police said on Monday they had arrested two brothers suspected of robbing dozens of cash machines while wearing masks of President Donald Trump.

The stunt evokes the 1991 film "Point Break" starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, in which a gang of surfers don masks of ex-U.S. presidents while robbing banks. But in a statement police said the brothers had been inspired by a different film.........

RIO DE JANEIRO — A federal prosecutor in Brazil’s Amazonas state has launched an investigation into a reported massacre of at least 10 members of an “uncontacted” indigenous tribe by gold miners.

Brazil's indigenous affairs agency, Funai, released a statement confirming that there is an investigation into the murder which allegedly took place along the Jandiatuba river, near Peru’s border........

Kagame's Re-election in Rwanda:

"Paul Kagame may have just been re-elected president of Rwanda, but he clearly puts little stock in elections. Late last month, the man who has ruled post-genocide Rwanda for two decades rejected "Western democracy" and asserted Africa's need for its own version of democracy.

Coming from a man whose opponents tend to turn up dead or imprisoned, the statement is an ominous one.

While Kagame's words would once have drawn international ire, he has less to fear these days. In Donald Trump, the United States has a leader who prefers to embolden autocratic leaders.......

....In the meantime, at least Kenya's judges have rebuked Kagame's vision of undemocratic "African democracy" more powerfully than any Western capital ever could.

The elite liberal Robert De Niro is embarking on a plan to help rebuild Barbuda.  My guess is that most American conservatives will do nothing but come up with excuses why they cannot spend money to help those less fortunate.  Then they will go to church on Sunday and praise God.

Myanmar uses scorched earth tactics in Rakhine: report

"Amnesty accuses Myanmar army of carrying out 'ethnic cleansing' of the Rohingya, as nearly 400,000 flee to Bangladesh.

"The evidence is irrefutable - the Myanmar security forces are setting northern Rakhine State ablaze in a targeted campaign to push the Rohingya people out of Myanmar," said Tirana Hassan, Amnesty International's Crisis Response Director.

"Make no mistake: this is ethnic cleansing."

...soldiers, police and vigilante groups would sometimes encircle a village and fire into the air before entering, but would often just storm in and start firing in all directions.

Myanmar uses scorched earth tactics in Rakhine: report

"When the military came, they started shooting at people who got very scared and started running. I saw the military shoot many people and kill two young boys. They used weapons to burn our houses," one survivor said....

When Hurricane Irma came through and knocked out the power around here, all I had for entertainment or information was the radio. I thought even that would be no help, since our local rock, pop, and talk stations all went out with the power, and the only thing I could pick up were the three local country music stations, all of whom had generators and kept broadcasting at near full power. Not being a fan of country music, I was set to turn the radio off when I just happened to pick up NPR (National Public Radio) from nearby Gainesville. I ended up listening to it for several hours, and I just wanted to point out that nearly everything you've discussed in this thread so far was also covered on NPR during those 36 or so hours.

before the storm hit, did anyone down there have the where with all to freeze water in gallon milk containers and then place them in the lower part of their refrigerators to prolong the cold? food will stay good for 12 hours but that will lengthen the time by a lot.
